Commercial Description:
Legend Oktoberfest lager is our most popular seasonal. This brew is red-orange in color, malty but well balanced with noble type hops. It has 5.4% alcohol by volume and is lagered (aged) to create a smooth drinkability. It is most similar in style to a Vienna lager or a Marzen beer. Judicious use of caramelized malt gives this brew a smooth sweetness and deep orange color. It is hopped with American Tettnang, German Hallertau and Czech Saaz.

Kinz was good enough to include this beer from his hometown in a trade we recently consummated. Floral and hoppy aroma. Smells just like Sam Adams Boston Lager with hints of sweet cookie. Cloudy reddish orange body with a tan head that is mostly disappating. Excellent lace. Very tangy hop flavor. A hint of some off notes, but as hard as I tried to isolate them I never really could. Peppery mouthfeel that could use a little more sweetness to offset. Nevertheless, a good session beer. Very enjoyable with a cookie finish.

Pours a beautiful clear reddish amber with a monstrous beige head. Aroma is very malty with a hint of sourness. Taste is perfectly sweet with notes of caramel, roasted malt, brown sugar, pilsnery hops and that trademark Legend sour tinge which works quite well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Has much more body than other Oktoberfests I’ve had. Has an unreal silky smoothness to it, very nice. Great lacing and head retention. This brewery is very underrated IMO. Great stuff.

For the style, although not my favorite, this one nails it. I am continuing to be impressed with this brewery, and here it is just down the road from me. Full amber malt flavor without being to sweet. Just enough hops to balance without advertising their presence- excellent.

Bottle. Copper/orange color with creamy, long lating full head. Aroma is really nice-heavy caramel with bread and toffee notes. Malts really dominate the flavor. Smooth caramel maltiness is balanced nicely by the hops which are in the background but contribute just the right amount of flavor. Some bready and/or nutty flavors are present also. Medium to full bodied, creamy, very smooth and great tasting beer.

Amber-orange, big, puffy head. Nose lightly malty, some caramel, pleasingly toasty bread. Good biscuity malts, has a very pleasant sweet stickiness to it with a caramel undertone. Finishes with a darn pleasing hop bite. Excellent palate, some richness, coats the mouth very well. This is the kind of beer that makes me think I might like Oktoberfests after all.

As good as the 2002. The 2003 Okt is a pretty orangey brown, with a large creamy head that lasts nicely throughout. Aroma is an earthy, roasted nose, nice, but not overpowering. Great mouthfeel, smooth, balanced, no bite. The flavor is also balanced, sweet caramel, earthy hops wrap around each other, and a gentle floral finish. A really good effort here. Beats the heck out of the German brewers who have sold out and are producing watery, flavorless Fest beers these days. 2007 note - drier, more biscuity, not as hoppy in my humble opinion. Still nice though.

Re-Rate 10/11/2004 Sparkling clear amber ornage body, with a large dense manilla head. The aroma is a full of the Legend House character that I can not put my finger on. Nutty, earthy, toasted bread, and some spicy hops. The flavor is nice also, a touch of sweet caramel lots of toasty malts, and earthy-spicy hops. Medium body, dry finish. Another winner from Legend!

10/11/2003 - 7/3/3/7/3/15 - 3.5 Clear orange with a tan head. Yeasty malty smell dominates. Nice overall aroma. Very nice smooth malt nutty flavors. Medium smooth body.

Rich malty nose. Clear burnt orange color with a nice slightly off-white head. Crisp caramel apple flavor with a touch of tangy-ness. Mouthfeel is a little bit sticky, but the aftertaste is nicely bitter. Overall, a very enjoyable beer.
