Commercial Description:
Leinenkugel 1888 Bock, a lucisous brew, originally created to serve lumberjacks, will be available for all who want to try its excellent boutique of Caramel, Pale and two-row Chocolate malts. Cluster hops add a touch of citrus character and when combined with Munich malts and a 20- to 25-day cold lagering process, you have a truly timeless beer.

12 ounce bottle - $1.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. After trying the gag-inducing Berry Weiss and the entirely shameful Fireside Nut Brown Ale, I was more than a bit hesitant to go another round with Leinenkugel, but we’re only talking about a lone twelve ounce single. How bad could it be? What’s the worst that could happen? Appearance: Clear, dark reddish-brown body with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Smell: Vaguely sweetish, slightly fruity nose with notes of roasted and toasted nuts. Taste: Pale malts with a very thin taste of chocolate powder followed by a flavor of toasted nut shells. Hint of apple and raisiny fruitiness. Light bitterness. Sip of metallic-tasting water, like a mouthful of loose change. Finishes quite crisp with a lingering nuttiness. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation. Drinkability: Not quite as soul-crushingly poor as some of their other products, but by no means is it a good bock. Not recommended.

dark copper color, thick tan head, nice lacing. nose of sweet malt, hint of chocolate, airy. flavor is chocolate, musty malt, caramel. medium bodied, mildly fizzy/sweet finish. just an ok beer from a brewer who has been generally disappointing to me in the past. bottle thanks to cornfield.

The appearance is a nice ruby red, almost brown, tan head. This is the nicest thing I’ll say about this beer. The aroma is weak, mainly weak caramel malts. The flavor is also weak, follows the aroma, except a slight spicyness, and a flavor of nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish had a slight hop presence, but was a little too astringent. The Dunler Bock is a great style, but this is not a great beer. Not insufferable, but not great.

Aroma excited me but flavor and palate fell flat. Total absence of hops lowered rating as I am a hophead but I do understand they do not show up in this style. Not bad overall and will have another...possibly in a minute or two.

Pours dark brown with an unnaturally carbonated head. Flavor is sweet, cinammon malt, not very strong. Flavor is toasted malt with a touch of sweetness and a watery body. Basic.

Pours a dark maroon and clear color with a short lived beige head. Smell is sweet, sticky candy like artificial malt. A bit nauseating like the malt character in a lot of Leinenkugel beers...Taste is thin and a bit toasty with caramel. Light bitterness and a big watery backing for assured easy drinking. Decent, but unremarkable as expected.

Twelve ounce bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville, Florida. I actually saw this first in N.C., but waited to pick it up. Beer pours a nice brown color with a tan head. Aroma is very malty. Taste is roasted malt with a slight bit of caramel and the finish is very neat. Not bad, would be a good six pack for a party or tailgate session.
