Commercial Description:
Leinenkugel's is pleased to bring back Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock's name and label pokes fun at the goat's springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinie's beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

Poured from bottle to tulip glass, dark a a Coke. Decent head retention. Aroma is very nice, roasted malt, and a wiff of citrus? maybe? Taste is mellow, sweet malts. and a bit of licorice, and a definate maple finish. It is not a Celebrator, but, and decent domestic Doppel. Funny, but, if Leinies wasn’t owned by MillerCoors, I guarantee this beer would be rated higher. WAY too many raters look at the ownership, and let that get in the way of a true sampling, and rating. Just read some of these ratings, of ANY beer brewed by BMC. No matter if it is a decent beer, the blinders put on by industial beer haters get in the way of true ratings. Again, not an Asam, Celebrator, or Tucher, but, it is a $6/sixer, that is a good alternative to fizzy yellow domestics.

12oz bottle. Light aroma of toasted caramel malt, maple syrup and faint grassy hops. Pours dark brown accented by rich copper with a thin brown head. Flavor was more watery than what the aroma would lead you to believe. Fairly malty with some light sweet maple syrup and caramel notes. Medium bodied with a toasted biscuity malt finish.

Pours a clear dark garnet color with a minimual off-white head that does coat the glass. Aroma is dark caramel. Taste is well balanced semi-dry. Sweet roasted malt, caramel, maple syrup and even a little vanilla and licorice. A very decent effort for a formerly small regional brewer.

12 oz. bottle poured into stein glass- poured semi transparent darken brown, an off white head formed and bubbled away. Aroma of malt and an almost egg note. Hits the mouth with a medium body, some malt noticeable, alcohol noticeable on the finish. Hmm- I really wanted to try this one, but I’m kind of let down by it.

Bottle. Very disappointing. Very thin body, slightly sweet malt flavor. But not even int he same league as a Celabrator or Asam Bock. I knew it wouldn’t be world class, but I was expecting at least a little more of a malty body. I could even live with a so-so flavor if it was a little chewy. Pass on this one. Now what to do with the other 5 bottles?

Pours a dark amber with a thick tan head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is of malts but nothing too striking. The flavor is of malts and nut. Okay for the price and style of beer.

I poured a little in to a glass to make sure this wasn’t MGD. Doesn’t look like it but unfortunately tastes like it. Very disappointing. I would not call this full bodied and I barely taste any malt. There is no second date for this beer.
