This is a decent one, although the alcohol content doesn’t appear to be as high as other doppelbocks. I will give it credit for having more flavor than some doppelbocks that I’ve had. Looks great, tastes great, and leaves a nice impression on one’s pallet. Headbanger (1587), Aurora, Illinois, USA

An aroma of malt and nuts. A light to medium taste. A mild Doppelbock with not much malt flavor and watery. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jun 5, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist cap long neck brown bottle with a coded bottled date on back neck of the bottle, close to the shoulder.
Made an average appearance, poured a clear reddish brown with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin lacing.
For a doppelbock, had a faint nose, no rich maltiness, just bare hints of caramel and banana with a stale scent that I am guessing is alcohol.
None of that doppelbock crispiness from malts, watery smooth thin medium bodied mouth feel, poor drinkability for the style.
Once again, for a doppelbock, tasteless, watery caramelized malts, one or two drops of liquid banana oil, and yes, the stale scent in the aroma was a fusel-like alcohol, and just the faintness hints of chocolate in the finish.
I don’t mean to offend anyone, I know Leinenkugel’s has it’s fans, but I don’t know how anyone can call this a crossover beer, you might as well call Miller Lite a crossover beer. In fact, I would rather have a Miller Lite than this. A very poor representation of the style.

Tastes stronger than it really is. I think it is sort of a low alcohol % to be a true dopplebock. This is a wonderful brewery but they need to get a couple of true (strong beers) in the 10 - 12 % range. This is Wisconsin. I think we can handle something a little stronger. ehhdayton (1113), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 23, 2006 The aroma has notes of caramel and chocolate. The color is brown with a tan head. A sweet malty taste is at the forefront and grows to a slighlty richer, although subdued, malty finish. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 10, 2006 Big Butt is the first dopplebock that I ever had. It’s very watery for a dopplebock, but the color is a gorgeous deep brown with a light brown/tan head. The aroma is wonderful, chocolate and toffee hints abound. There is quite a bit of alcohol taste that comes through, which is odd considering it’s relatively low (5.8%) abv. No hop presence to speak of, this beer is all malt. This beer is pretty decent for the price. KSS (102), Plymouth, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2006 A dark brown draft with a hint of red highlights. Taste reminiscent of a chocolate covered cherry. Smooth, almost syrupy. Butterscotch aroma. Nice dessert beer. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA

Nice and malty and very smooth, not as strong as a lot of bocks, like the NEw Glarus Uf da. I typicaly stock pile this stuff before it goes out of season, as they should make it year round i think!
