Commercial Description:
Leinenkugel's is pleased to bring back Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock's name and label pokes fun at the goat's springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinie's beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

This doppelbock is not as smooth as others in its class. This has an immediate bitterness/crispness from the hops. I prefer doppelbocks to be more malty. I don’t detect much aroma either. The palate is on the weak side, not "rich" like their label suggests. The flavor and aftertaste leave a lot to be desired for its style.

On Draught. By the time I got this poured, the head had basically disappeared, so I’m not sure if the head quickly disappeared, or if there wasn’t much to begin with. Caramel is the flavor of the day here. Somewhat one dimensional, not very complex in structure. I still enjoy this over some in the style, however. Probably this the creamy dark are my favorite out of the Leinie’s line, which isn’t saying much. But I’d order again assuming there wasn’t a lot of other options.

Pours dark. Similarity to doppelbock ends there. Smell and taste are both faint. Malt is not nearly as prominent as one would expect. Indeed, this beer is rather watery. Taste isn’t offensive, but describing this as a doppelbock is.

Well, it pored ok - Looked like a dark iced-tea with some foam. But . . . it smelled like a wet towle or old sweat socks. The flavor started off non-descript, with a cocoa taste in the middle, and then a little something unidentifiable at the end. Very watery.

Dirty/dark-looking Sweet roasted malt aroma. I’m not sure what else to say... Sweet malt, with raw corney molasses overpowering the taste. Its okay, but the corney molasses overpowers everything.

Pours a nice dark brown. Aroma of malt, nuts, hops. Tastes malty, with some hops and roasty hints.

Pours a brown amber with small white head. Aroma is of caramel malts and some hoppiness. Slight coffee and dark chocolate flavors are present - however it is subdued by the bold maltiness. Could have been much better, but not too bad.
