Commercial Description:
Leinenkugel's is pleased to bring back Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock's name and label pokes fun at the goat's springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinie's beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

Pours a clear brown with a small white head. Aroma is caramel, malts, slightly hoppy, chocolate and slight coffee notes. Taste is rather bland for a doppelbock rather benign notes of caramel and chocolate with the maltiness is blended nicely. Palate is slightly sticky, bitter and dry. A just par doppelbock there are much better, and there are much worse.

Pours a very ruddy clear brown, with a greasy head of ivory. Aroma is a bit floral, with a good whiff of kitchen cleaner and sweet malt. Flavor is bland, slighty bready and a hint of warmth. Again, served too cold by Old Chicago, so that I can’t taste anything. When will those bastards learn?? Surprisingly drinkable.

Root beer colored pour with a nice, clean off-white head. Light, non-fragrant aroma of some roasted malts, cheap wort, and imitation maple syrup. Flavor is not bad, but definitely on the sweet side. I detect some brown sugar, but the alcohol makes its presence known and the finish is quick and grainy.

Light roast- malt aroma not much else present. No lasting head or lacing. Red copper colored sweet smoke malt taste . Not a bad beer just not that rememberable.

A pretty good doppel. Taste is lage like, with chocolate and nice roastiness. Sweet, but complimented by the bitterness of the roast. Nice.

Bottle. Poured a deep reddish-amber with a rather short-lived beige head. Aroma picked up some roasty caramel and toffee, but there was an unpleasant aire of Nutrisweet that carried through to the flavor. Caramel and a small dose of floral bitterness were also found in the flavor. Medium-bodied at most, and I got nothing memorable from the palate (good or bad). Not one to seek out, but several steps up from most of their portfolio.

First of all, I got on the Leiny website after I bought this beer in a mix a six, and who the hell has ever heard of a 5.8% dopplebock? 12 oz bottle. Served at 52.5° in a lager glass. Dark amber color with a small off white head. Nutty, molasses aroma that smells burnt. The initial taste is sweet, nutty malt followed by salty, nutty, dark caramel and malt flavor, and a smokey finish with some mild bitterness. The flavor isn’t too bad, but is not good either. The mouthfeel is thin for a dopplebock. I am really, really glad that I didn’t buy more of these.
