Commercial Description:
Leinenkugel's is pleased to bring back Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugel's Big Butt Doppelbock's name and label pokes fun at the goat's springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinie's beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

Dark Brown with off-white dissipating head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Good malt taste, alcohol in the aftertaste. Solid, nothing special, but surprisingly solid.

12oz bottle. Light brown with slowly fading light brown head with decent lacing on the glass. Malty aroma. Kind of syrupy, a little watery, alcohol is evident. A little too sticky, a little too malty. Not as good as other dopples I’ve had, I remember this one being better.

On tap: Pours dark with a thick head (although small). Butterscotch aroma and flavor. Not bad beer compared to other macros, but not great.

Bottle: Dark mahogany color, nice tan head and lacing. Nose of caramel and sweet molasses, light fig and some dark malts. The flavor has a light body, a chewy mouthfeel and a moderate amount of umami for such a downplayed beer. Nutty and caramelly. Finishes buttery and light in the tail. Thin overall but good.

Pours a clear reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is toast, caramel, wheat, corn syrup...from the first smell you can tell that this is a cheapened dopplebock. Tastes of toffee, astringent toast, caramel, butter, and finishes with buttery toast and a bit of roasted grain flavor. Way overcarbonated and watery to the point of annoyance really. I’ve had more substantial Oktoberfest beers, and this is supposed to be a dopplebock? It’s only slightly more interesting than Shiner.
