Aroma is really fruity, rather odd for an imperial stout. Flavor is fruity (pineapple), smoky, meaty (ham). Drinks like a pig roast! This is a unique tasting imperial stout and I definitely approve!
Thanks again Andrew! BlackForestCO (827), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Bottle thanks to pepsican. Poured a black color with a thick tan head that left nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, light roasted malt and coffee, and some light dark fruit. Sweet, smooth malt entry with strong chocolate and some undertones of dark fruit that lead into a lightly roasted finish with a bit of coffee. A bit of alcohol on the finish. Pretty smooth, but it seems a bit thin. Pretty solid, but I wouldn’t put it up there in the upper echelon of imperial stouts. Still, glad I was able to try it, thanks Pepsi. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 14, 2008 I was told and told to get this brew and wow what a let down. Nice deep black pour with frothy brown head. Aromas of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor was alcohol and malt. Nothing impressive about this stout. This one might be better after sitting for a few years, but not now. No thanks. TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2008 I csn’t believe this is Leinenkugels. This is a very tasty, true to style. imerial stout. Big sweet aroma, nice think mouthfeel, sweet and chocolaty, roasty, and subtley smoky. Very nice and extremely drinkable. Way to go Leine’s thia is probably the best macro-micro attempt to date. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Thanks to Alldaydrinker for this epic birthday present. Pours out like motor oil and leaves a brown, soapy head that is thin but strudy. The nose is hugely malty and fruity with notes of milk chocolate, vinous fruits, coffee, smoke, oats and roasted barley. The flavour is insanely sweet with a balancing rauch-like smokiness and piney, resin hop bitterness. The sweet flavours include molasses, cream, red fruits and chocolate. The bitter, roasty tones include roasted coffee, resin, smokey malts, spicy rye and an unpleasant medicinal bitterness in the finish. The finish is almost too citric also, taking away from the desert-like sweet flavours. The sweet soy sauce character is a bit intense for my taste also, as it makes the beer sour and salty. The body isn’t as full as I expected, and mabey a bit sharply carbonated. The finish is very dry and warming. Pretty good, but I feel it falls short of the hype it carries. Ho hum, this wasn’t a very interesting experience. This is exactly what I’d expect from the likes of Redhook, Sam Adams or Leinie’s. Dark pour, decent head and lacing. Aroma and flavor were roasted malts, chocolate, a tad overly sweet with some vinous notes that were not all that apppealing. Meh. Headbanger (1588), Aurora, Illinois, USA
