Commercial Description:
The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

This beer pours out like motor oil from the bottle, with a thin whisp of brown foam that struggles up through the thick liquid and settles into a lasting ring. Nose has coffee, chocolate, banana, and tar in it, with some hair spray alcohol. Big taste with lots of chocolate, burnt coffee, molasses, tobacco, with a finish of sweetened espresso. This beer is so viscous as to be chewy, and it coats the lips with its sticky sweetness. Almost too thick. Really nice Impy Stout.

I had this from a 12 oz. bottle purchased in Milwaukee. This beer pours a thick black fluid. There is little to no carbonation so very little head appears, but what does is a dark tan color. Lacing retreats quickly. The aroma is what a good RIS should be. Fruity, Molasses, yet in a dark way. The nose is very smooth with much sweetness. A quick turn to the back end of the taste and the 9.5% alcohol becomes apparent. The overall mouth feel is somewhat medium. The dominating flavors are dried fruit, molasses, and a burnt quality. Overall, I would say bravo to Leine’s for achieving a very solid RIS!

12oz bottle via trade with Ughmash, shared with cyn. Pours black with a thin light brown head. Nose is very nice, very sweet and malty. Taste is sweet, malty, and pretty damn tasting maybe a bit to bitter with a little bit of a burnt quality. Not quite as good as I expected but not bad by any means.

355 ml bottle from a trade with ughsmash. pour very dark black with no head. aromas are chocolate, dark fruit, some coffee, lots of hops. flavours are awesome blend of the aromas. thick slick mouthfeel adds to the flavour wave. very well put together and balanced. ughsmash if we trade again send more of this stuff.

Multiple bottles from multiple sources. Black body with a medium sized, tan head that quickly fades. The nose is acidic roast, green apples, chocolate and molasses. The flavor is moderately sweet with chocolate, green apple, alcohol, molasses and burnt coffee. Medium/full body is thin with moderate carbonation. 5/3/5/2/10 = 2.5

Blind Tasting 5/3/5/2/10 = 2.5

12oz Bottle. Striking barbeque aroma, very rich and tangy with molasses, pork skin char, brown sugar, spices, smoke, vinegar, the whole works. A total experience. Rich and blasting with roast and char. It’s a pretty nice aroma. Pours a heavenly deep black, with a really luxuriant silky soft head, that laces and bubble beautifully in maple wood. Flavor gets me down. This is too charred, too rich, too coarse. There’s a crushing harshness to the profile of this beer. There’s some higher alcohols that make it estery in a peculiar way, that somehow fights with the roast. There’s tannic tendencies and a mess of chocolate. Not particularly smooth, it has rough patches too clean up. The most disconcerting aspect is the bubblegum and fake fruit sensation in the back of the palate. Hops are non-existent. Too sweet and too messy.

Bottle courtesy from Styles, Nice smell of molasses. Taste was sweet with hints of dried fruit. Not over powering but noticible. Alcohol was well hidden. lacing was nice also. Good beer
