Commercial Description:
The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

Bottle from Shigadey. Poured a black color with a moderate rocky brown head that mostly lasted and produced sticky legs and good lacing. Good roasted chocolate, coffee, ginger and alcohol aroma. Full body with a smooth texture. Heavy complex roasted bittersweet stout flavor with a smooth bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout brew.

Bottle at C-bus 10. Shared by Sliffy I believe. The aroma was heavy chocolate with a hint of alcohol. Black body, with no head. Full palate with low carbonation. This bad boy has a ton of chocolate syrup type of flavor--it’s thick! Sweet and slightly sugary. Great flavor profile. If it was a bit less sweet this would be outrageous.

What a nice treat from Miller: black and oily with thick lacing. Taste was bourbon and figs, warming finish. Right on the mark for a Miller effort, but still cannot compete with better labels.

Bottle shared at Columbus 10. Poured JET BLACK and thick. No head. Taste was woody, and roasted nuts, chocolate and coffee. Not bad really.

Bottle: Pours an oily black with a creamy tan head. Aroma, boozy, chocolate, dried fruits, some prunes, some earthy and roasted notes, a hint of wood. Flavor, chocolate, dark fruits, earthy with some moderate roasted quality, sweet, some alcohol comes through, more coffee as it warms up, the finish has some earthy and fruity bitterness to it. Medium to full bodied. Something just didn’t click for me with this.

12oz bottle coutesy of Skyview.
Where to begin. Well the pour was like the oil was left in a car for 50,000 miles. Dark tan milk shake head that left some spotted lacing on top of pint glass.

Aroma was roasty, sweetness hit the nose at times. Chocolate and barley and grainy oats freshly havested..

Chocolate sweetness at first with a cherry licoice flavor that followed. Texure was thick and the tobbacco, molaces and fermented baraley grains hit from middle to end along with to with some chocolate still present.

Smoked roasted grain dryness left for aftertaste with a sweet coco also present.
Quality sipping brew thanks Bob.

Thanks to Ughsmash for sending me a four pack of this. I have two left to enjoy; hopefully I can get more before supplies run dry. It is hard to believe it has taken this long for a major brewer to throw money at the problem of making world class beers. It should give some of the craft brewers a challenge which is always a good thing.

Aroma / Appearance - The deep black body poured with an oily consistancy. A one finger muddy head rested on top for a while before succumbing at the very end. Spruce, anise and blackberries were the first things to stand out followed by cherry licorice and coffee. Vanilla played a part as well. It is not the most complex imperial stout but it certainly has plenty going on.

Flavor / Palate - The taste of thick chocolate truffles fills the mouth before becoming smoke, vanilla and wood. Plums, anise and some hoppiness unfold next. The final stage is vinous with expresso characteristics. For such a heavy beer it is suprisingly drinkable. The finish of dark fruits (cherry, blackberries) keeps things solid until the end. This is a solid imperial stout without any flaws that deserves its place as a 4.0+ beer.

This is a really good Impy. Pours thick, viscous black from the bottle, with a medium brown head. Lots of lacing on each of the two I had, with strong coffee, cocoa, and something almost fruity in the nose. Flavor is impressive, especially when you consider Leinie’s doesn’t make anything even remotely like this beer. Strong smoky coffee and cocoa, with some tiny hints of fruit and alcohol, but not too much. Like was said below, this is the closest I’ve tasted to a sessionable Imperial Stout.
