12/06/2007 and 7/09/2009: I’ve had several bottles of of this over the past couple of years, but it’s hard to say where the written tasting notes are at this point. Luckily, I have another bottle on hand to drink and finally get a rating and some tasting notes posted for this beer... Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout has lots of rich caramelized malts, dark malts,
smooth char with a bit of smoke, and aged alcohol in its wonderful aroma. The beer is moderately sweet and deeply malty with lots of sticky caramel, darkly roasted malts, as well as dark and semi-sweet choclates, espresso, char, dark fruits, sweet licorice/molasses blend, and some refined, warming alcohol. It finishes with chewy, dark chocolate and has a good bitterness (undertones of citrus hops). This black brew is full-bodied and quite smooth. It has just the right amount of carbonation left and just a thin, tan crown sitting on the surface. This is a pretty big and complex Imperial Stout that packs some punch! Overall it is a very impressive offering from Leinenkugel.
12 fl. oz. bottles (twist-off caps; 9.5% Alc/Vol; 04258 31514) from buckybeer. Thanks Mark! Rating #312 for this beer.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 3, 2009 In short: A big fat sticky impy stout. Brutally ordinary.
How: Bottle 12oz. Sent to my by Tertons, thanks a lot Nelson. Consumed some 6+ months after receiving it
The look: Pitch black body topped by a persistent very small tan head
In long: Big malted nose with hints of tar. Taste of generic black cake (not black chocolate), molasses, a cup of black coffee (not roasted coffee beans), earthy notes, peat, figs. Low-medium roasted sensation, this one is more vinous and sticky than roasted. The alcohol surprisingly very much present and even feels more than the actual 9.5%. Not a bad sipper but this is below average for the style. Overrated. If only I had a nickel for each overrated disappointing imperial stout on ratebeer. Then I would have enough money to buy an overrated disappointing barrel aged imperial stout on ebay.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Wow...I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I didn’t think Leine could brew something this good, especially being owned by MC. Pour was pretty black and viscous. Big aroma of dark chocolate, burnt sugar, coffee, roasted nuts and a hint of hops. Flavor was at once bitter and sweet. Coffee and dark chocolate being the most prevalent, followed by some roasted malt and a lingering molasses sweetness. Mouthfeel was thick and smooth. Overall a nice Impy stout. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a motor oil black with a thick chocolate head that dissipates to nothing. Nose of chocolate, toffee, nougat, maybe a little oxidation. Flavors of candied dark fruits, caramel, toffee and chocolate dominated the palate. Like I mentioned before, the brew seemed a little oxidized, had that kind of bacon-burnt meat distinction. Would love to try another to compare. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 30, 2009 12 oz bottle from JCB, who has been known to rock out with his cock out. Blikkity-black with a dense brown head. WOW what a nose - deep dark molasses, some dark fruitiness. Huge flavor, overwhelming at first, sweet molasses and chocolate with plummy fruit, roasty sweet maltiness. This flavor is HUGE. I remember the hype around this beer, and I remember thinking there was no way a Miller product could floor me... I was WRONG. Lingering chocolate finish with a distinct licorice tone. It’s not the best Imperial Stout out there, but shockingly good from BMC. Thanks Jason!!! BeerBaby (62), , Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2009 Thick, tan head and dark body. Starts with coffee but stays a bit bitter with a roasted aftertaste. Could use a bit more sweet balance. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 23, 2009 Pours black with a thin ring of tan for a head.
Coffee aroma that adds molasses as it warms.
The flavor pretty much follows the aroma.
A bit one-dimensional.
