Commercial Description:
The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

On tap @ Skyview’s bar during the Thrila in Bob’s Villa. This beer is over a year old now. Poured into a copita glass with an all black body and a large brown head, very dark head. Aroma is thick, oily, even salty, sweetly bittered, and chocolate. Definitely boozy, man its everything you want in a punch-you-in-the-face Impy. Taste is is still hoppy and bitter from the hops. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous, perfect for this type of beer. Definitely cool stuff, a bit too aggressive still, I would like to try this again in another year.

On tap. This is such a complex, and HUGE beer. It took 1.5 hours of slow sipping to drink the pint. The flavors and smells evolved considerably as the beer opened up and warmed. It should have been served in a brandy snifter instead of the pint glass. If I could change one thing, I’d make the alcohol a bit less forward. There is a very forward distilled alcohol flavor that does fade a bit as the beer warms. What a fun beer. Definitely worth a try, you’ll never forget it if you do.

Blind Tasting. Pitch black in the glass, with a minimal mahogany aura on the edges. Smells of beef jerky (its a manly, chuck norris kinda beer) maple and mesquite. Oily, boozy, and chocolatey with some red fruit character on the edges. Semi-sweet chocolate aftertaste. Clingy bitey palate.

2008 Bottle - Thanks buckybeer - Pours thick black with a medium brown head...aroma is sticky and chocolatey, flavour is carob, molassas, not quite sure where the bitterness comes from...Leine’s just keep striving, but to me always come up macro...

12 oz. bottle - thanks to drewbeerme for this in a trade way back in April; a beautiful beer for sure as it pours oily black w/ long lasting 1/2" chocolate colored head; aromas of roasty coffee, milk chocolate, sweet candy and beef jerky; and some bacon off the empty bottle; drinks very dry with plenty of smoked meat; a little bit of wood too; texture is thin and uninteresting; nice aromas, but pretty blah in the flavor; after i drank this i wondered why i held out for so long, so maybe not one to age

Bottle thanks to jjpm74. Thick pour of pitch black with a thin tan ring, big chocolate aroma, light soy and roastiness. Thick body bordering on syrupy, big malt sweetness, bitter roasted malt, chocolate and hints of soy sauce and hop bittering in the finish.

Bottle, from KingpinIPA. Pours near black with a thin brown head. Aroma has dark fruit, roasted malt, ans some sweeter caramel notes. The body if fairly smooth. The flavor has roasted malt, loads of raisins and dark fruits, with a touch of caramel and chocolate sweetness. Pretty good.
