Commercial Description:
A 100 percent malted lager, “Leinie’s Classic” features Leinenkugel’s own unique blend of two-row and six-row malts and four varieties of hops. A blend of Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts offer a complex flavor, with four different hops (Cluster, Cascade, Mt. Hood, and Hallertau) to balance the malts. Acknowledging their German heritage, Leinenkugel’s brewed Classic Amber in Reinheitsgebot tradition, where the only ingredients permitted are malts, water, hops, and yeast.

Poured into 4oz sample glass, but I asked for a second pour to make a more proper 8oz review. Plus I was not sampling other beers, so no sample fatigue. Thanks Applebee’s! Very light amber with nice head and slight lacing. Somewhat sweet aroma with notes of caramel and toasted malts. Biscuit and caramel malts balanced by citrusy hops, with light bitterness at the finish. Nice balance overall. Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. Finishes slightly dry. This would be a very respectable everyday lager. Perhaps the best Leinie’s I have had.

A dry-ish malt aroma with some dessert notes, smells like a marzen crossed with a bit of brown ale. Clear, medium brown/tan/orange, good label. Drinkable, crackery, some fruit notes. A tad tangy and not aggressively hopped. Session weight, tannic finish. Winn Dixie.

Not a bad beer. Like this beer with a meal, but seems too sour if drinking more than one.

In the bottle at the 2009 Crescent Moon Summer Beer Festival. This beer is not amber and it is not classic. Pours gold with a medium white head. Has a vegetable aroma. Medium maltiness. Not very good.

Pours from 12 oz bottle a pretty basic light amber orange with a finger of puffy off white head. Some metallic malt aroma and grassy hops with a small hint of caramel. Flavour is crisp, mainly malty, and has a hint of hops and a touch of fruity sweetness. Texture is tingly and rough, and leaves a malty and slightly bitter aftertaste. Overall decent, session-able beer.

Bottle. Moderate toasted and cereal for the malt, light herby/juniper note for the hops, with pepper and a slight hint of dried fruit in the background. Head is small, frothy, white with a little lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear, dark amber. Flavor starts lightly acidic and finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. A very drinkable beer, but weak in many respects.
