Commercial Description:
A 100 percent malted lager, “Leinie’s Classic” features Leinenkugel’s own unique blend of two-row and six-row malts and four varieties of hops. A blend of Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts offer a complex flavor, with four different hops (Cluster, Cascade, Mt. Hood, and Hallertau) to balance the malts. Acknowledging their German heritage, Leinenkugel’s brewed Classic Amber in Reinheitsgebot tradition, where the only ingredients permitted are malts, water, hops, and yeast.

Slightly corny aroma. Flavor is mostly clean graininess with a little hint of buttery-ness. Meh.

Pours clear amber with a 2 finger fizzy white head that has decent retention. Aroma and flavor are grainy, hints of caramel and toasted nuts, very little hops other than a slight bitterness and planty notes toaward the finish. A fairly inoffensive but toned down and un interesting amber.

Litlle purple hint with no smell. Slight bitterness and crispness. I have never liked this brewery. At Beerfest Miami 09

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear light copper with small ecrue head. The aroma is grain, nut shells, some caramel, and a strange, dark earthiness. The flavor is a little bit more caramel-focused with some huskiness and a bit of corn. There’s some herbal bitterness to the finish that makes it crisp, but still seems a little bit awkward. I don’t much care for it.

On tap at Marie’s Pizza. Clear amber with medium beige head. Aroma is caramel and light with some graininess and slight nuttiness. Flavor is off-dry caramel with subtle hops, and citrus. Medium to light body with active carbonation. Solid but uninteresting.

This amber ale poured with a decent off-white head and a toffee aroma. There is an interesting caramel and smoked malt flavor with some decent hopping. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 4/13/09

Aroma: Caramel, nuts, toasty, touch of honey
Appearance: Not amber as you might expect from the name...Golden, clear, little beige head
Flavor: Mostly malty sweetness, taste comes from the hops, but it is almost all malts, very much lager in the taste
Palate: Light-Medium body
Overall Impression: A pretty average, but solid amber lager. You know, it’s not bad...but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
