Taste is surprisingly good for the style. The chocolate malt shows in the taste. The mouthfeel is kind of light but overall this is a pretty decent beer especially considering the price. jokerman (4), Monaca, Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 5, 2007 Is this a poor man’s Guinness?
Nah..not really, it is dark and tasty.
Not a bad beer at all but spend the extra
bucks and try a Penn Dark. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA

Aroma is of dark roasted malt with notes of coffee. Taste is of lightly roasted and dark bready malts. Again, notes of coffee. Overall sweetness is less than I thought. Finish is a little bit watery with a hint of chocolate. Basic qualities are cinnamon, red apple, and coffee. Decently roasted character. Kind of a dunkelish porter and not a bad run at all. skorchsoul (36), Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Bottle. Aroma almost exactly that of Leinie’s Red, and typical to style. Much darker pour, though, this is a dark brown-red. Creamy lacing tan-light brown. Watery, though slightly fuller than their Red and HW, with lots of caramel, toast, and nuts. Crispish with light bitterness and a touch of wood. Medium-strength terminal sour tang. I suppose I can’t complain, haven’t yet vomited after a Leinenkugel’s.
