It’s not a real stout, and the carbonation is a bit heavy, but it adds to the sessionability. When I drink it, I tend to let it warm a little to bring out the chocolate and espresso flavors. Still a lager; still a Leinekugel, but decent nonetheless. madvike (346), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 29, 2009 Bottle - This is one of those beers that is horrid cold and really needs to warm just a bit. It still is below average, but it’s really terrible if you drink it straight from the fridge. Pours deep mahogany with a tan head and smells of dark malt, faint chocolate, metal, and some subtle cinammon spiciness. The chocolate comes out more as it warms, but mostly goes away upon tasting. This beer is pretty much dark malt with a faint hop finish--there just isn’t much here. There’s also that metallic taste hanging out. Eww. The carbonation is the worst--it bites the mouith and never allows you to simply taste the beer. I’d drink it if my other choice was a pale lager, but I also might opt for water instead. 6ROW (272), corpus christi, Texas, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 13, 2009 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Some roasted malt in the aroma but not much else. Creamy mouthfeel and a slightly toasty burnt malty flavor. Trying to get tasting notes out of something this bland is like trying to squeeze sweet honey from a rock. It’s not happening.
