Aroma is nutty roast malt, with some molasses and sourish fruit - a bit sweet. Taste is like molasses and cola mixed - sweet, burnt and bitter. Mouthfeel is acrid, syrupy, thin and still. Not a very good dunkel. Smells okay. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Tastes like a roasty / nutty macro to me. A bit fizzy. Okay, but not too great. norushjohnnie (19), Sister Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 7, 2006 Nice head on this one, good retention too. Pours a very dark reddish brown and smells a bit of hops and bit like the quantities of malt it contains. Not much bitterness in the taste, though a touch of spicyness is imparted by the hops. The aftertaste is a huge wave of burnt malts and the mouth feel of this is extremely smooth. Not overly complex, but solid. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 5, 2006 Was drinking this one when I fell through the ice... didn’t spill much - and it warmed me up a bit when I finally got out. Great aroma, great dark color with a roasted malt and nutty aroma. A bit thin on the flavor front, but when you’ve fallen through the ice anything is good! avalancher34 (38), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2005 One of the best dark beers out of the States. A lovely creamy aroma comes off the thick head winding down into a decent, full bodied lager. I detected a hint of fruit and nuts, almost like raisins and almonds here. Very satisfying and great with a big thick burger. Pretty good price too at 6.50 a 6-pack. jezmez68 (334), Chesterton, Indiana, USA

Goes down smooth without the typical "swallowing a loaf of bread feel" you usually get when drinking darker beers. I think they’ve figured out how to make dark beers for Americans. I too, was expecting creamyness....but it really wasn’t. Slightly roasted flavors...thats about it. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
