Nice dark brown color, decent head. A little bit watery, but still decent and drinkable. Pailhead (2609), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 7, 2005 Bottle: Aroma is a roasty chocolate with a little sourness mixed in. Pours a dark brown with red hilights when held to the light. Small tan head fades rather quickly. Light chocolate up front with a cafe mocha finish and aftertaste. A little watery but not too bad. Lightly smoky and roasty nose. Flavor is sweet molasses, some milk chocolate and decent bitterness at the finish. Quite flavorful. Very nice session beer. DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Metallic lagerish aroma with hints of smoked and roasted burnt woods. Slight sweet notes. Transparent mahogany color with a large fluffy light tan head. Start is somewhat sweet and floral turning a little roasty towards the end. Kind of thin and metallic, though. It’s ok. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 26, 2004 bottle...clear brown pour with a frothy white head that lasts a little. Malty aroma, some chocolate, some roastiness. Kinda musty. Smooth, not necessarily creamy. Roasted malt is predominant, however that is pretty much all that is evident. Mildly sweet, not bitter, unimpressive. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 24, 2004 12oz bottle, no BBD. Brown, nice head w/ lace. Malty aroma, chocolate malt. Very light body. Thin. Mild dark malt character. Smooth and maybe a bit creamy. But can’t hold a candle to Sprecher Black Bavarian. This one is just plain and boring, but not horrible.
