It was the only decent sounding beer they had so I gave it a whirl. It’s Leinenkugel, so I half exected it to be a watery mess, but it actually wasn’t that bad. Some slight coffee and malt on the nose, with a surprisingly good appearance. The flavor was a bit watery, but not as much as I’d expected. Overall a very drinkable dark beer, that went very well with the fried pickles(mmm!) i had. davidCC (130), New York, USA

Tastes of dark roasted malts, a little creamy in texture. Overall not bad. machfive55 (235), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA

There is a nice malty aroma and a very faint hop aroma. The beer has a good flavor to it with some good malty backbone. There is a nice clean yeast profile which you would expect in a lager. The beer is fairly subdued compared to a stout, not nearly as rich, even though it is not a stout so I don’t know why I’m comparing it to a stout. For a dark beer I’d like to see this have some more backbone to it, there isn’t much mouthfeel and I’d expect that in a dark beer like this. I’d also like to see some more flavor complexity and some more interesting things in the maltiness, maybe some more roastiness or chocolatey flavor. There is a good balance between bitterness and maltiness here as well. It was an enjoyable beer for me, but just lacking in some places. thegreenrooster (1852), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma has some dark malts and and roasted nuts. Flavor is dark malts with some coffee with a super creamy texture. They really went for the creamyness and they got that right. Nothing great but it is different and at least worth a try. jmw141 (134), Canton, Illinois, USA

Head is thick and sustained. Malty aroma with some coffee in there too. Malty flavor finishes bitter. I wasn’t overly inpressed with this one eventhough reviews have been good for it. I wouldn’t drink it again. csbosox (1085), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA

Dark red color, excellent clarity, and a smallish khaki head. Light roast in the aroma as well as a touch of dark fruits. Flavor is light roast, nutty, with some malty sweetness and a balanced finish. Mouthfeel is nice enough. A tasty little beer, easy to drink but with a little flavor. cblado (150), Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 31, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear brown mahogany color, slight head on it. Aroma was slightly malty, some yeast. Flavor was mainly nutty, with some malt aftertaste. Palate was about what I would expect, a little thicker than a pale lager but only slightly. Overall a drinkable, but unremarkable beer. vonreich (1), Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 23, 2008 I love this beer. It’s much like the thick German beers. Thick, dark beer is the way beer should be. Not the watery excuses for beer typically brewed here. One should be able to taste their beer.
