Commercial Description:
A traditional Marzen brewed with 2-Row Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts. The malts give it a hearty character and deep amber color. Tettnanger and Perle hops provide a well-balanced, drinkable finish prefect for Fall celebrations.

9/26/2007: Leinenkugel’s Octoberfest is golden in color with a thick, dense, foamy off-white head. The aroma is laden with pale malts and sweet, yet grainy at the same time. The flavor is sweet and filled with extra pale malt. Overall all this beer is just too light to be taken seriously as an Oktoberfest.

Sample(s) from 12 fl. oz. bottles shared at the September 2007 Jundale Beerklub Tasting. Thanks! Rating #315 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours a nice copper color with a decent beige head that slowly fades. Taste is of caramel, roasted malt and hops. Fairly sweet and kind of bitter. Has a good mouthfeel to it and a nice aftertaste. Aroma is the same as the taste. Very easy to drink and inexpensive. I wouldn’t mind having this again.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear amber in color with a very thin white head. Not very bubbly. Aroma is very light with some corn and grass flavors. Some hops and a light dash of malts round it up. Flavor is light with some sour and metallic flavors that linger on the tongue and stay very, very bitter. Finishes with a watery corn taste. Not much sweet malts. Not what I expect from an Oktoberfest.

Pours amberish, white head. Aroma is malty/ caramel Taste, malty, light bitter hoppy aftertaste. Very light touch of caramel, grains. Did not leave me much of a good Oktoberfest impression.

Bottle. Pours orange with big sticky off white head. The aroma is sweet with caramel, wood, and a spicy hodgepodge, with some brown sugar notes and light alcohol. The flavor is mild caramel and toasted malt, fruity yeast notes, and enough hops to make it crisp. Dry, toasty finish.

12oz. Pours a clear golden amber with little to no white head. Nose is muted to the point where I really can’t much but the slightest notion of caramelized candy corn. Body is tasty, mouth watering caramel malts with the slightest nuttiness. Great carbonation and a mouth-watering finish makes this much more true to the style than I expected and very quaffable.

Pours amber with a white heasd that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of malt and spice. Nothing too powerful. Taste was weak caramel malt, spice, and some breadiness. Mouthfeel is very watery. After taste is very bitter. Not a good beer.

Pours orange-amber into the glass, with an initially frothy head that diminishes quickly, leaving thin soapy lace. Aromas of dough and silage predominate the bouquet. The flavors are faint, but contain toasted caramel malt... with a toasted herbal hop toward the mid-palate. The finish brings back some doughy notes with some light esters, with toast coming through at the end of the pull. The mouthfeel is watery and reminiscent of a seltzer. Nothing shows complexity or vibrance.... just a ’’so-so’’ offering from a ’’so-so’’ brewery (under the ’’Miller/Coors’’ guise of a microbrew statute). Underdone, and rated accordingly.
