Overall experience: 12 out of 20. I liked the aroma, flavor and visuals in the body. I did not like the slightly watery feel, the soda like tendency of Linenkugels in general, and the softness of it. Apache (18), Georgia, USA Apr 11, 2008 Very sweet and fruity. It tastes like it was over spiced. Another very common beer in the Midwest and oddly enough the only Leinie’s beer that is widely available on tap in the Atlanta area. Wulfstan (509), California, USA Apr 10, 2008 This is another beer that demonstrates qualities that I don’t like about many wheat beers - too light and fizzy, too soft, and too little "beer" taste with too much odd, chemically-perfumy citrus-orange taste. It is gold, hazy, with a few small bits floating around in it, it has a small white head that soon shrinks to a thin foamy ring and light bubbly wisps. The aroma is a light grain with lots of citrus oil and mostly sweet and flowery, along with candy, vanilla, orange blossoms, spices, and furniture polish. The taste is orange flowers-citrus oil, candy, and cleaner. It is tangy and mostly lightly sweet with a light tartness. I see no point in this but it is basically drinkable. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Apr 10, 2008 Pours perfect golden color with almost no head. Decent lacing. Strong aroma of blueberry and wheat malt and hops. Tastes almost like blueberry flavored beer. It’s pretty good since I like blueberries. Flavor is abit sugary and sweet too and finishes a little bland. maniak (14), Bath, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2008 I’m not big on this whole wheat carze, but if I have to drink one, it’ll be a Leinie’s.
stangger (155), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 6, 2008 Even at 39% it’s rated too high. This stuff is suddenly EVERYWHERE, being pushed out the door at distributors and magically appearing on tap around Philadelphia. The aroma is mildly pleasant and fruity, but it tastes skunky with an overpowering lemon (think lemon-scented cleanser) aftertaste. Pass. level4 (24), New Jersey, USA Apr 2, 2008 The guy at Wine Country told me this stuff was good and tasted like Fruity Pebbles - so I figured that would be a neat change of pace and maybe the ladies would join me in a drink. I had to pour it down the drain. It tasted like chemicals or perfume - not like yummy cereal. Smells good and looks good, but that’s about it. idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA Mar 30, 2008 Overpoweringly orange...its that simple.
Nice pour, a golden hazed orange with a average to above average foamy head, and a very appetizingly visible carbonation.
The aroma was oranges--not hints of orange, but much like a glass of orange juice that’s a bit past its prime.
The taste is also very orange...not much complexity. After the first few sips, it begins to take on the flavor of the Fruity Pebbles (the breakfast cereal). At this point, it became incredibly difficult to finish the beer.
The only thing that keeps this from being a total disaster is that the carbonation is just right and the palate/finish are decent. But then, what’s the point of a beer that feels good in the mouth but tastes downright awful?
