Spicy and sweet melanoidiny aroma complemented by some spicy hops and a promise of bitterness. Slightly hazy copper with good lacing and a thin, but lasting, cover. Spicy melanoidins dominate the flavour, followed by some walnut and watermelon. A bit soda-watery but balanced by a mild bitterness. A bit thin in body, medium carbonation, nutty finish. Viper666 (613), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada Apr 6, 2008 Bouteille 750ml. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 25, 2007 Dark brown, like a really interesting brown beer, witrh some head and yeasty and malty aroma. Some chocolate malt, definitely on the sweet side. Dr. Lexier’s birthday, 1/3. Easy drinking, simple dessert. Medium mouthfeel. A malt, primary, exercise. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2007 Bottle shared with mds, HogTownHarry, blankboy and tupalev - mds’s bottle. Clear orange-amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is nice and malty, with some biscuit and toffee notes. Medium bodied. Flavour is full and balanced, with caramel malt and a very nice nuttiness, and hints of tobacco and coffee. Excellent. Appearance :Dark copper with amber body , large creamy milk like crown on top, medium fine lacing .4+ Nose :Sweet aromatic noble hop aroma , meadow flower scent , soft gently sweeten caramel malts. Very neat but not entire alt like.7+ Flavour/Palate : Now we are talking. Medium full bodied caramel with strong nutty feel. Bitter feel at sides of Schumacher alt. This one is creamier softer in body. Middle smoothly enters similar finish. As aroma palate generously rewards us with pleasures. Dark woody tavern character of old Germany. Almost flawless, wished if it was bit more assertive in its alt character. Felt a bit too soft for my licking.
Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 24, 2007 Bottle: Poured a medium brown color alt with a large foamy head with some good retention. Aroma of deep caramel malt with some hint of sweetness and nuts. Taste is also dominated by some deep caramel malt with some nice notes of nuts and some sweetness. Full body with some great carbonation. Very well done from this always improving brewery. LadySusan (462), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Oct 23, 2007 Bottle shared with Quevillon. The color is reddish brown with a beige head and lace. The aroma is very malty and sweet fruity. The taste is of malt also with a bitter heavy dry taste. The 5 % alcohol seemed to me higher. This is a very good example of an Alt. beer, bravo Mousquetaires. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2007 Bottle. Copper body with a small soapy white head. Smells earthy along with caramel, leafy hops, and sweet malts.
Toasty and bitter flavour up front. Pretty tasty but lacking depth. I think I’d like to revisit this at some point as it may have been dwarfed in comparison to a few beers had just before.
