Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 12, 2009 Draft at Brasseurs du temps back in May.
Good pour, super fresh, ample solid off white cap, slippery ropy lacing, crystal clear deep amber beer. Good floral bouquet, lots of deep citrus aroma, orange, sweet ruby red grapefruit, cherry, good blended malt (what malts, I’m not sure), aromatic and quite potent.
Interesting sourness, seems to be linked strongly with the fresh unsweetened grapefruit. Lacks flavour, overall disappointing after the impressive aroma. Weak candy, dulling hops, pine.
Drying, slightly tart, good soft carbonation, long dry mild bitter finish. Diogène (542), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 16, 2009 Draft at Brasseurs du temps. Clear copper with thin foamy head and poor retention. Aroma is citrusy hops, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is also mostly citrusy hops, caramel, roasted malt, and a hint of pine. A well done and very drinkable APA. Nothing special though. Boutip (2330), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 14, 2009 Draft: Poured a medium copper color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma of citrus hops with some well balanced caramel malt. Taste is also dominated by bitter and citrus hops with a nice caramel malt backbone. Good carbonation with no apparent presence of hops. Very well done with great drinkability factor. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 8, 2008 750 ml bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry- Pours deep orange, slightly hazed with a generous white foamy cap. The nose is simple, but enjoyable. Fresh floral hops and bready malts with apple and cookie dough. The taste is decidedly fresh green hops, nice caramel and bready malts balance the floral bitterness. Finishes bitter, with a long lived lingering aftertaste of hops and bread crust. Simple, but well made and enjoyable. Thanks for this one Harry! blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 21, 2008 My bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & garthicus -- courtesy of Viper666. Pours a clear orange-amber with a small frothy white head. Nice aroma of Goldings hops and sweet malt. Simple but easy to drink flavour of light hops, grain and sweet malt and a light bitter finish -- this would be nice on tap. Average bodied. An enjoyable version of the style -- good stuff. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 14, 2008 Bottle shared with Garthicus, Hogtown Harry, and Blankboy, courtesy of Blankboy. Nice copper pour, small white head. , lots of streaming bubbles. Mild but nice aroma - tinny, a little sweet, dry fruit and some grass. Good taste - fruity dry hops, crisp fresh mouthfeel, nicely carbonated. A nice subdued APA. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 13, 2008 Bottle (750ml). Shared by blankboy with garthicus and tupalev. Very clear bright orange pour, smallish frothy-creamy beige head. Funky, vegetal leafy hops, alcohol, a bit of salty green olive. The taste carries better, grainy and lightly acidic, the funky hops come out better here (stronger yet not really vegetal like the aroma) but still an earthy tang - crisp, simple. Average body, mild bite to it, definitely an APA. Decent. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 13, 2008 Blankboys bottle, cheers Paul! Shared with Paul, Harry and Jeff. Appearance: light amber colour with a small but solid eggshell colour head. Aroma: Mown grass, dusty, with some air I detected malt. Flavour: Initially sweet and somewhat greasy (?) some bitterness and saltyness too. Not bad.
