Great retention. Amazing, complex fragrances of dried plum, burnt caramel, tobacco smoke, molasses and cocoa. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Burnt malt and singed caramel provide the foundation for lesser flavors of leather, smoke and chocolate. Reminiscent of De Molen’s Tsarina and Mikkeller’s X 2006. So much going on here. Cheers to glouglouburp for providing this treat! radiomgb (2070), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Dark brown-near black in colour, lingering thin tan coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is rich, burnt, some coffee, lots of chocolate, good sweetness, light smoke. The flavour is of chocolate ice cream, quite sweet, burnt dark malts, molasses, cocoa. Sweet mouthfeel, full body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes quite long, burnt, sweet with lots of chocolate.
Very rich and sweet, quite good. An excellent beer form this brewery, lived up to my expectations.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Pours a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and a thin lacing, wispy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel with some dark chocolate and lightly smoked character. Body starts fairly full and dark caramely sweet with some complex smooth smoky chocolate notes before a slightly drier finish. Nicely balanced and very drinkable. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Pours a beautiful deep brown almost black – with a slight head, and average lacing and slightly under carbonated. Smells of very strong coffee with chocolate and a hint of liquorish. First taste is surprisingly bitter with coffee dominating and chocolate follows. Nice smoke finish. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2008 Courtesy hopscotch. Pours black, with a smallish light brown head. Smells of some burnt dark chocolate, with a profound dark fruit presence, mixed with some roasty malts. The flavor is mostly the same, with good roasty chocolate malts coming to fruition on the palate. The finish is fruitier than it is up front, which leaves a sweet finish and aftertaste. This is a very well done baltic porter. Great mouthfeel and flavor. wickedpete (629), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2008 Thanks to Eben for this one. Black body, brown head. Chocolate and licorice aromas. Flavor is chocolaty, sweet, light dry roasted bitter, has a lactic sourness. Ughsmash (4079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Many thanks to Mike for opening this! Poured deep brown with a short cap of tight beige head. The aroma was deep with dry-roasted dark chocolates upfront.. coffee grounds and dark fruit backed it up, leaving a rich, dark, and sexy impression. The flavor had drier dark chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit at the core.. more cocoa-like sugars on the back with dry coffee bitterness riding out the finish.. enjoyable, but a bit harsh at the finish. Heavier-bodied and drier on the palate with some rough, raw alcohol on the back.. nice roast to it. Very good beer.
