Commercial Description:
This Doppelbock, or "Double Bock", is a dark, extra full bodied lager after the best Bavarian tradition. Such beer was created by monks for the tough fasting period of Lent. They called it "liquid bread". Look for flavor notes of chocolate, candied fruit and roasted malt.

[1082-20080201] 750mL (c/o mds, w/ him, blankboy, GregClow, jerc). Toasted malt aroma with notes of coffee. Clear, dark red wine body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Roasted malt continues in flavour with a bit of alcoholic coffee. Full body, subtly bitter throughout. Nice texture.
Overheard: "This one’s pretty good... *urrrrrrrp!*"
After some more sips: "I husbanded the doppelcock."

Vintage 2007 Pours clear mahogany with a ruby tinge. Beige foam of a half-inch receded to stringy lacework and a skim coat of fine carbonation. Aromatics are laced with juicy malt, chocolate, and shadows of bourbon. A hint of tannins and vanilla give a barrel-aged impression. Very rich and complex. The mouthfeel is medium, sticky, and creamy. Lush. Cocoa with fresh, doughy malt lead off the pallet, with warming alcohol stepping forward quickly. Hints of oaky tannins still apparent, as well as whiskey-like fusels. Finishes with lingering caramel, rich malt, and a nint of noughat. An incredibly tasty, complex take on a Dopplebock.

750 mL bottle received via trade with Glouglouburp. Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, light brown head, lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather) with notes of dates and maple syrup. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a chalky and dry finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

750 ml bottle shared by tjthresh at csbosox’s tasting on 3/7/08. Pours a deep mahogany with a thin, creamy cap and nice lacing. The nose is peaty and roasted malt with cocoa and a faint dried fruit note. Medium-bodied with tongue-tickling soft carbonation and a light roasted finish. Roasted and chocolaty malt with a mild peat note in support. This is a tasty doppelbock. Thanks for sharing it with us, Tom!

750 ml bottle shared by tjthresh at the csbosox tasting on 3/7/08. Pour is mahogany with an egg white head. Aroma of biscuit malt and some smoky roastiness. Taste is a nice, straight forward dopplebock. Nice light palate that made this very drinkable. I thought this was very tasty. Thanks for sharing Tom.

The pour reveals an attractive, clear, ruby color with a medium tan head. The aroma reveals its secrets in a quiet, relaxed way, there’s a nice blend of berries, caramel and toasted malt. The flavor is very good, berries, caramel, toasted malt and bitterness live in harmony and peacefulness, it’s very well balanced and and very well done. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. This is yet another solid offering from this excellent brewer.
