Commercial Description:
This Doppelbock, or "Double Bock", is a dark, extra full bodied lager after the best Bavarian tradition. Such beer was created by monks for the tough fasting period of Lent. They called it "liquid bread". Look for flavor notes of chocolate, candied fruit and roasted malt.

Tap at Vices et Versa. Dark brown beer. Sticky brown head. Intensely aromatic nose with a nice herbal-accented cocoa and some clean brown malt. Toffee and light cocoa over a chewy lightly fruity maltiness. Some light plums and sweet toasted malts. Milk chocolate with a bit of herbal/hoppy character. Not overly sweet at all, just with a nice light toastiness that works very well in this beer. yup... not a bad choice at all for my last beer in Montreal.

(Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy dark brown with almost no head. Sourish-malty aroma with some roastiness and spices. Sweet and nutty-malty flavor with moderate roastiness, hints of coffee, and some ash. Medium body, lowish carbonation. Not bad, but maybe "too sweet and caramely in the wrong way" for me.

Bottled vintage 2009 (PBF). Dark nut brown color, small beige head. Dark sugar, green beans, plum and something like milk chocolate in the nose. Crisp, quite alcoholic. Lots of caramel, toasted malts, very sweet for being doppelbock. Long toasted caramelly and a bit alcoholic aftertaste.

Dark brown pour, minimal head. Aroma of brown sugar, caramel, and dark fruit. Flavor is nice, with a great sweet malt character and great spices. Palate is sweet and sticky, but not cloying. Solid dopplebock.

Dark brown, almost black pour with minimal off white head. Aroma is raisin and caramel malt with tons of dark fruit and caramelized sugar. Some slight citrus is evident. Flavor is roasty but sweet caramel and toffee malt with an excellent dark fruit character and a chocolate malt finish. Palate is full with mlid carbonation and dry finish. Quite nice.

2009 edition. Pours a reddish brown with a foaming white head of generous dimensions. Malty aroma, with a richness and a bit boozy. Above average mouthfeel. It is a rich malting that leads to a taste climax of much sweetness. The bomber must be shared.

Looks great. Beige head, deep brown colour. Great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, malt, and dark fruits. The flavour is very strong and alcoholic. Chocolate, dark fruit malt, and bread. The alcohol really detracts from the flavour.
