Commercial Description:
This Doppelbock, or "Double Bock", is a dark, extra full bodied lager after the best Bavarian tradition. Such beer was created by monks for the tough fasting period of Lent. They called it "liquid bread". Look for flavor notes of chocolate, candied fruit and roasted malt.

Bottle. Almost opaque brown read with a very thick foamy mocha head. Great retention and good lacing. Aroma is wood, smoke, roasted malt, nuts and bread. Flavor is toasted malt, alcohol, wood, hops, raisins, bread, and a hint of roasted malt, Full Body. A very good brew.

Appearance: quiet dark brown with fine creamy , beige top. 3+
Nose: Roasty character , mocha , bit dry for doppelbock style. Dark malts.6+
Flavor/Palate : Strong character of roasted feel. Good solid malt body. Creamy with roasted accents, slightly earthy. Good but not really to the style.13+/20

Bottle. Rich mahogony beer with a light tan head. Roasty, toffee aroma with malt. Big toffee/caramel flavor with roastiness and nutiness and a bit of licorice and dark fruit. Fuller bodied. Caramel/toffee lingers with roast and a bit of earthiness

BLACK pour, quite a bit darker than i expected Aroma of sweet malt, and some peppery alcohol. The flavor was sweet, and a sort of tangy. This is not as malty as i expected. There is more of a vinous port wine flavor than the malt bomb i was expecting. Still very good, but a little off he style for my taste.

Dark brown, with hints of garnet when held to the light. Moderate bubbly light tan head what dissipates to a thin lid. Fairly sweet aromas, with caramel, wet grains, hint of herbal hops, plums and hint of roasted malt. Lots of malty flavors. Fruit, nuts and malt all wonder about. LIght and nearly airy in feel, with just a spritz of oil. This certainly is robust. I was a little worried with the slightly grainy scents, but there is no sign of attenuation problems. Front has some dark cherries and plums. Middle moves to the grains and nuts, with hazelnuts and almonds. A rich caramel and toasted malt component in the finish. I catch a bit of alcohol every so often, but not enough to distract. Some light spices work their way in with some cloves and cinnamon. Does not have the crisp clean lager qualities, but still one of the better tasting doppelbocks I’ve had in a while.

Pours a dark brown with red accents. Nice mocha coloured head. Aroma is of plum, wheat, mushrooms, soy, some sweetness and alcohol. Tastes pretty strong, tuns of alcohol. Licorice, plums, chocolate, mushrooms and a salty soy on the palate. Carbonation is nice. Alcohol dominates this beer. Not the best example of doppelbock. Meh.

Glass, on tap at Vice-Versa.Poured black with brown head. Aroma is quite discrete at first. With time, some caramel, roasted malt and fruitness (blackberries it seemed) came. Taste is quite alcoholic at first (whisky) but faded off. Quite warm. Very sweet. Small bitterness on the finish. Alcohol is quite discrete considering it is 9.5%. Rating #118

8,99$ for 750 ml bottle , at Peluso. New spring 2009 batch. Very sweet, chocolaty, fruity, some spices, not much bitter brew. Rich and thick, heavy but much too easily drinkable; I thought I’d save some for the next day. Another great strong beer from this brewery I really appreciate.
