It requires quite a sniff to get those woody (branches, foresty candle type) hints up the nostrils. I wouldn’t have named hemp, but there’s a good suggestion of this herbal (moderately bitter, leafy) flavor I can’t put a name on. Lightly acidic, overall dry. The trace of some fruit hiding. Light palate, rather high carbonation. Not much going on: a poorman’s bitter. MartinT (5080), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Smells similar to Rogue American Amber was my first impression, but then I started noticing some bad burlap smells or something: rough, young malts with a cardboard or leather smell, odd and not that pleasing. Body seems full up front but then drops off quickly. Tastes like some hay, yarn, whatever... dull flavor and unexciting. Me thinks this is a gimmick. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Dark amber-to-bronze, tiny lasting fizzy head...brown sugar and sweet herbs in the nose...body is surprisingly bitter, somewhat sulforous and redolent of burnt & smoked malts, quite dry throughout and bitter/sour to finish. There’s a brackish, saltwater quality in here that somehow works because of the fairly strong malt underlying, but it’s an oddity that I won’t drink often.. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2004 Herbal aroma is somewhat spicy with a light underlying fruitiness. Tarnished copper coloured body with generous white head that lasts nicely and recedes with some lacing. Initial herbal flavour with a decent bitterness - the toasted malts come pleasantly to centre-stage in the finish. Light body with good carbonation. Very refreshing. Bottle. Poured slightly hazy orange-amber with a tiny white head. Some caramel malt in the aroma, oddly and funkily spiced, slightly yeasty, a hint of wee heavy dry petrol. Taste - OMG, there’s the wee heavy - dry, oily malt, funky spice - fairly long finish for a mostly-malt brew. Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, dry and a little watery - but I like the wee heavy style, so intentional or not, thumbs up. Thanks, turg!
