| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Clean and smooth schwarzbier with a certain wet burnt grain leaning.
I like:
Beautiful appearance. The usual 3M clean lager character and mouthfeel. Excellent soft palate with no roast astringence. Delicate and layered chocolate flavours. Great sweet/dry balance and evolution.
I dislike:
I could not get rid of the "wet grain" impression. It’s a frequent flavour for me in dark lagers, but it was very pronounced here. Relatively simple malt profile for the style, minimally fruity and toasty. MartinT (5075), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 22, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Overripe fruity notes swim within the prevalent roastiness and chocolate of this healthy and lightly bitter Schwarzbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A dense sheet of foam recedes to a ring onto the brown-tinged blackness.
-The important fruitiness might be a sign of its (d)evolution as none of the other raters have talked about this before. This might become lightly tart in a couple of months or so.
-This was quite low on the hops, apart from the finish which was a blend of roasted malt and alpha bitterness.
-The big bubbles are quite soft.
-The fruity profile is redolent of berries and cranberries.
-I prefer their Noire in the same style family.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 21, 2009 A deep dark schwarzbier with a thin moka head. A lightly lactic chocolate aroma. In mouth, a nice chocolatey malt with light funk (signs of infection), some fungus and cave, a bit of metallic notes, and acidity. Not bad still. egajdzis (3640), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Poured a dark brown / amber color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, roasted malts, toast, toffee, and earthy yeast. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, tobacco, light citrus, roast, and a bit of cocoa, with a dry finish. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Thanks to TomDecapolis via trade with Denniz. Not quite was I was hoping for or expecting from a pretty good lager brewery- this seemed just a bit off and not quite near the style. Pours a nice deep dark almost black a bit hazy. Aroma is a bit too high in the chocoalte and roast malt- with some char and big doughy yeastiness. Flavor also chocolate malts, peppery spicy, earth, toasted malts a bit too bold and syrupy in the malts and not enough dry breqady toastiness or crisp cleanness on teh end- finishes just a bit too messy. Tastes and smells pretty good and is a good drinking beer, but not quite what I was expecing. TomDecapolis (3216), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of molasses, vanilla, tobacco, caramel, nuts and light smoke. Flavor of lightly smoked malt, caramel, nuts, light vanilla and sweet malts. Flavor was a mix of the same. Smoke was light, caramel and molasses.
