<b>App.</b>: Black with a fair, slightly grey tan head. <b>Aroma</b>: Some decent black coffee and dark chocolate, a bit of light black licorice, slightly ashen. <b>Palate</b>: Medium+ body, fairly soft but full effervescence. <b>Flav.</b>: Still mainly black coffee, a little dark chocolate, some green peppery hops, some black licorice; a touch sweet with a little bitterness and a bit of lingering coffee.

The only one (of three) in this series that tasted normal. Not bad, certainly not up to their usual high standards.

Very good dark-beige head over brown-black beer, with some ochre-amber reflections. Black- and milkchocolate, wood, black cardamome peel, bit of coffee, coffeebeans, <i> Pumpernickel</i>. Roasted, nearly ashey coffee flavour, coffeedrab, burnt breadcrust. Underlying sweetness, some unfermented sugars. Near stoutlike acidity. Not very well bodied, though OK for a Schwarz. Objectively speaking, a quite well Schwarzbier, nothing really amiss. The problem is that the last five years saw the coming of a great number of really excellent Schwarzbiere, both in Germany as elsewhere. Biere noire, un peu mince, gout herbal et un peu de rotie. Ptite biere tranquille... Black beer, thin. Herbal and a little bit of roasted character. An ordinairy beer...

Bottle, from Simon Anthony. Pours dark brown with a dissipating head. Aroma is tart (bad bottle?), charred, and bitter chocolate malt; a bit awkward. Palate is full-bodied, and dry on the finish. Flavor is initially of licorice, plum, and roasts, which then transitions into a mid-palate profile of grass, bright fruit (cherry?), and strong ashey-charcoal. Strange, even for this uncommon style. As I let Noire cool, the flavor meshed together better. What initially could have been characterized as being replete with sharp contrasts of flavor (underripe cherry and charcoal??) became much more smooth, achieving complexity. Flavors linger to pleasant effect, which managed to win me over.

<b>In short: </b>A thin chocolaty black lager low on the fruity flavours.

<b>The look: </b>Black body topped by a medium beige head
<b>In long: </b>Dark malts, watery black chocolate, roasted level, very low, a light dark grapes flavour. Body is a bit thin and airy, too airy for my liking. Not very tasty. A little lemony acidic touch that I personally find out of place, I’m even wondering if my bottle didn’t have the beginning of an infection. Trois Mousquetaires came out with two Schwarzbier in 2008, the Noire Méduse and this one. Overall I thought that this one was basically a slightly watered-down version of the Noire Méduse and therefore not interesting as long as I can get the Noire Méduse. Not that I have anything against water, after all It’s essential to make non-watery beer.

Bouteille de 341 ml. La bière se présente avec une couleur brune-rubis et un col de mousse chocolat modeste. Au nez on respire des arômes de café-moka, de vanille et de chocolat noir. En bouche le corps est mince-moyen avec une effervescence moyenne. On goûte des saveurs de grain grillé et de chocolat noir. La finale est amère.

Bouteille de 341 ml. (Dégusté avec french ticjkler) Une biere de couleur noir avec un bon collet collant et de couleur beige. Odeur d’humidité, chocolat et un peu d’épices. Gout de chocolat et d’épices.
