Commercial Description:
This Franconian-style Kellerbier, "cellar beer", is an unfiltered Pilsner marrying the richness of Quebec barley to the smoothness of German hops. It is the ideal aperitif.

Editor’s note: This Kellerbier is a slight reformulation of their 2008 Oktoberfest Blonde.

I heard nervous stories about Quebec barley when I was there in March. The beer I tried there made with Quebec barley tasted very green and raw. I shared a 750ml bottle of this with my son on the porch. Golden orange amber with a thick head. Raw grainy scent like sniffing a glass of lightly toasted barley. Taste is the same tasty barley advertised in the aroma. A little green but definately full of flavour. Big grain taste, bready middle and a sharp pilsener hop finish.

Bottle, shared with macadem. Nose is gentle citrus, mixed with grain, malt, and a certain oaty/wheaty/oily aroma that I can’t pin down. Flavours of estery citrusy hops, very perfumed, and pleasant and blossoming throughout the palate. Starts simple, and blossomed into a lovely beer. My first experience with the style, and based on this, a style worth seeking out.

Tall white head, hazy yellow. Aroma of saaz. Very strong and skunky. Flavour is bitter and floral, slightly citrus. It tastes like what I wish Heineken tasted like. Not very complex but still very nice. Very crisp. I like it a lot.

750 ml bottle shared with jessem. his bottle, thx for the share jesse! pours hazy gold with a lasting white head. just the way an unfiltered beer should look. nose of tropical fruit, light malt and hops. the flavour is similar to the aroma but just amplified. big in the mouth and complex while achieving balance. this one blew the creemore keller out of the water in a side by side. i really wish i could get more unfiltered lagers.

750 ml bottle from Jovi, cold, tulip, JL 28/09.

App.: Cloudy golden with a rocky white foam. Aroma: Kinda metallic, a good dose of grassy, peppery Pils hops, some light biscuity malts that are a little grainy, there is a background “dirty” smell that I can’t quite place... Palate: Medium+ body and moderate carbonation, somewhat smooth. Flav.: A fair hit of fruity malts, a good dose of slightly dank, grassy hops; off-dry with a nice bitter kick and a fairly clean finish.

Nice thirst-quencher.

5,79$ for 750 ml bottle, green label, summer ’09. The aroma is quite discreet for such an intense taste, which is quite dry, very herbally hoppy, with dominant notes of citrus. Dry hoppy mouthfeel, tongue-tingling and long lasting aftertaste. So summertime and tasty, I just love this one!
