A fresh pilsner out of a 750mL bottle. Clean, fresh and vibrant.
I like:
Charming fresh pils malt aroma. Generous lacey white head. Almost expansive carbonation is pillowy soft, not crisp as you’d expect, becoming rather creamy in fact, but very smooth and pleasant all the same. Soft hoppiness providing just enough bitterness to enhance drinkability and neglecting the aromas as per German influence. Not as lean and dry as you’d expect a German pils, but the malts are absolutely charming. Of course it’s not as idiosyncratic as the MacAllen, but it’s just as well brewed.
I dislike:
Some rumours spoke of some bottles being spoiled by DMS. This was certainly not the case of my bottle which was as clean as it gets.
I just tried the new 2009 version, the 750mL green label. It remains a relatively dry, highly drinkable beer with a strong leafy, very herbal finish. The Frontenac maltiness is highly perceivable, round, green and strawy. I remembered last year as more refreshing, but perhaps less bitter. Still, it’s a true pleasure to bathe into such great yet uncommon beers. Not changing the rating. MartinT (5075), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Herbaceous, grassy hops grow amidst farmy, grainy cereals before caramel-laden bread brings the tastebuds to a long noble hop bitterness in this peacefully carbonated and immensely poundable Québécois Kellerbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A lasting tower of foam provides fine lacing atop the hazy blondish amber with golden highlights.
-That nose is astoundingly rural. I know the Frontenac malts must have something to do with it, but they are so brilliantly paired with the noble hops and the chosen yeast that they don’t appear crude (which they often do).
-The carbonation nearly emulates that from actual Kellerbiers served from the cask; big bubbles, but so soft.
-Where’s my Mass krug?

Smells of spice, some metallic notes, caramel, some tea. Tastes of sweet malt and spicy with some complimentary peppery notes ans some hints of hay as the beer warms. Very enjoyable. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 10, 2009 Hazy golden pour with a thick white head. The nose is lightly crackery and a bit sweet with a distinct autolyzed yeast component. A little bit of honey and some crackery base malt as well. Meh, this seems to have been good once, but it’s well past it’s prime. JPDIPSO (4935), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Lightly hazed dark golden liquid with nice bubble formation and a glowing head of cream colored bubbles. Herbal notes atop a light pale malt. Perhaps a hint of must. No strong scents, but balanced and quite pleasing. Lightly sweet and a bit more must, that really seems to give this one cellar flavor. Pale malts meet with a more herbal hops. Lively palate. I’m not quite right with the continued mustiness, but still a very nice kellerbier. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 17, 2008 A lightly hazy blonde with a thick off white head. A really nice herbaceous hops and biscuitty malt. In mouth, loads of malt with a good amount of german hopping, clean and crisp, some resinous notes, an intense pils, in the same vain as Czerna Hora. Bought at Jovi, 4.99$ for 750 mL.
