Commercial Description:
Voilá! A beer from chilly Quebec inspired by the "rauchbier" you find in Bamberg, Germany — a dark beer made partly from smoked malt, aged slowly at low temperatures, and put in the bottle unfiltered, with a fine yeast sediment. All for one!

The aroma is mostly of smoke with not much else contributing. Taste is much more full and balanced, with lots of crisp malt and some bittering.

pours dark brown, off-white head. aroma is loaded with Bamberg style malts, hints of chocolate that seemed for upfront as the beer warmed up. flavor, light roast and smoke, hints of bitter chocolate and toffee. Contrary to the aroma, the chocolate was more present. Finish is similar, chocolate and light smoke. Well crafted and tasty.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a creamy fluffy two finger tan head. Aroma was malty with caramel and smoke. Flavor was roasted dark malts, smoke, light chocolate, caramel and a touch of coffee with a smoky and bitter finish.

Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a frothy light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and smoked malts with some bready yeast. Starts with good fullness and a light toffee sweetness with good light smoke flavor and a hint of dark fruits before a drier smooth bittersweet finish. A pretty good smoke beer.

Poured a deep, appealing, brown hue with a thin beige head. Aroma is actually quite earthy with notes of cocoa and lightly charred wood. Taste is sensational; there are a multitude of flavors that seem to jump out all at once. Plenty of roasted character with tinges of chocolates, molasses, and an almost woody/peaty presence, all bound together by a velvety blanket of smokiness that coats the palate. Seems to finish a little dry but is nonetheless refreshing in an odd way. Not too sweet, not too bitter, and the intensity of the flavor remains throughout the drinking experience. This is one of my first Rauchbiers and I think I like the style.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of smoke, cocoa andcarmel. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of smoke, roastiness, dark chocolate and a hint of carmel with a smooth lingering smokey finish.

75cl bottle. Another nice surprise at K&L. Thanks to Alex for tipping us off to this one. Dark brown with a medium-sized beige head. The aroma is a nice mix between smoke and bread crust, with lighter caramel and a roasty chocolate note gliding over it all. The flavor integrated the smoke very well into everything. It doesn’t really assert itself independently, but acts to enhance the chocolate, bread crust, and burn sugar elements. There is lots of complexly rich malt character, while remaining dry and very clean on the tongue, with a medium body and almost creamy carbonation. The flavors and aromas are reminiscent of crushed malt over a campfire and gooey s’mores. Cool stuff.

Poured from 750ml. Dark brown with medium light tan head. Nose was smoky, a bit spicy and sweet with a hint of malt. Taste was smoky, malty, a bit sweet with a dryness, but not too dry. Good while homebrewing.....
