Commercial Description:
Voilá! A beer from chilly Quebec inspired by the "rauchbier" you find in Bamberg, Germany — a dark beer made partly from smoked malt, aged slowly at low temperatures, and put in the bottle unfiltered, with a fine yeast sediment. All for one!

[2334-20090726] 750mL bottle. Smoky cigarette ashes and roasted grain wood aroma. Black body with a long-lasting foamy light tan head. Roasted smoke flavour has a long lingering roasty aftertaste. Full body. Roasty and smoky and a nice blend of everything.

2009-07-26. Very very dark brown is near black, rocky beige head. (3+) Smokey roasty dark malt in the aroma, with secondary underlying notes of sweet malt. Flavour has more roasty and sweet malt than expected from the aroma, offsetting the smoke a bit ad makes it much more balanced and drinkable. (7+) Smooth medium bodied palate suits the beer (3+) Surprisingly decent. Smoke is A flavour rather than THE flavour, and works for it. Enjoyed this much more than expected. 750ml courtesy of savvy1982. Pours dark brown with a nice, tan head. Smells of smoke, caramel, roasted malt, touches of chocolate. Tastes of smoke, pepper, spice, chocolate, caramel. Nice.

750ml brown bottle, corked. Dark red brown colour, Airy and noisy light brown head, fades to a ring. Sweetish chocolatey nose mixed with smoke and wood. Flavour follows the aroma pretty closely, dark chcolatey malts, some roast. Mild smoked finish, some roasty bitterness and black coffee are evident. Medium body, soft carbonation. Solid beer, thouroughly drinkable, could have been smokier, but I am not complaining.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Brown to black in color with a decent beige colored head. The smell is dirty, cigarettes, malts, grains, a little boring. The taste is malts, fruits, sort of bready, maybe some chocoalate.

750ml Bottle from Champanes, label on the bottle is different than the label shown on RateBeer, and reads 5.9% alc. not 6.0%, also, the name on the label is ‘Rauchbier’ not ‘S.S. Rauchbier’, anyway, I am sure this is the same beer. This Rauchbier has a dark brown-black pour (ruby when held to a light) with an initial chocolate shake tan head that fades to a ring, I found a thin film of sediment in the bottle, the pour has aromas of dry chocolate, charred wood smoke and fire place smoke with faint licorice, malt, coffee and earthiness? fragrances in the background, smoke and chocolate flavors are prevailing in this drink with a little coffee, and I found the smoke flavor is stronger than what my nose let on to, mouth feel is a little less than medium, nice drinking smoke beer.

750ml bottle courtesy of JAXON – thanks Jeremy! Pours pitch black with a 2 finger foamy tan head that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is smoked malt, dark chocolate and booze. The taste is smoke, cocoa, rich coffee and burnt malt with some bitter hops in the finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Good stuff!
