Commercial Description:
Voilá! A beer from chilly Quebec inspired by the "rauchbier" you find in Bamberg, Germany — a dark beer made partly from smoked malt, aged slowly at low temperatures, and put in the bottle unfiltered, with a fine yeast sediment. All for one!

(750ml bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a cloudy brown body with a moderate creamy beige head. Aroma of smoke, grilled meat, and roasted malt. Flavor of smoke, roasted malt, some chocolate, and hops (herbal).

750 ml bottle purchased and consumed on 05.30.09. Pours dark brown with an off white head, which I found to be a bit shocking since most, if not all rauchbiers that I’ve had were light colored. Looks to be more like a porter. Aroma is smoky and malty. Flavor is smoke, molasses, and anise. Not too sweet. I would drink this again.

750ml bottle. Pours a dark unclear brown with a lovely medium frothy tan foamy head that fades into a fide frothy top layer. Nice smokey beechwood aroma, chocolate, grass, roast and some acidity. Flavor follows but sweeter with great acidity, chocolate, grass, sticky deep roasted barely and then smokey beechwood. Long chocolate syrup aftertaste. This is definitely more of a smoked porter. Medium bodied with a full mouth feel with uniform fizzy carbonation, a bit chewy.

A wonderful rauchbier and a great new discovery. Pours a gorgeous black colour, with a little gold flashing at the edges. Soft toffe-colored head, with better than average lacing. A hung-venison smokiness dominates, with a beautiful choco-coffee character following closely behind. A slight soya sauce aroma can also be found. Palate is less smoky than other rauchbiers I have had, with wild game jerky, bitter chocolate, and mushroom soy sauce runnning over a silken palate. Finish is salty, but not unpleasantly so, and offsets the sweetness of this beer wonderfully. This will find its way into my shopping basket again!

Pours almost black with caramel coloured accents. Caramel coloured head with nice lacing. Aroma is very smokey (yea I know what a surprise!). Coffee, chocolate, oat, musty basement, soft fruit, jerky and salt on the nose on top of smoke the whole way through. Tastes intensely smokey, chocolate and coffee, mushrooms. salt, soy, this beer changes continuously. Great mouth feel. Really really good beer, very interesting.

Bottle - 750ml. Hazy dark brown body with low carbonation and a thick brown frothy head that fades rather quickly. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with smoky and roasty hints. Its hoppy/smoky taste is well balanced but could be more complex. It ends with a long bitter/roasty finish. Well done.
