Poured black with a creamy tan head that lingered and laced pretty well. Chocolate and coffee on the aroma. Flavor is much the same Chocolate, coffee, a bit of brown sugar and somewhat dry on the finish. Palate was about what I expect from a stout.. Full bodied.. Definitely the best of the 3 brews that I got to sample with dinner. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

Big chocoff aroma, with a taste of chocoff, some molasses, and a very crisp finish. A tad thin at the finish, but very complex. NachlamSie (1649), Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Draught during my NC brew tour. Pours deep, dark red with a fine, even tan head. The aroma is pretty faint on this one too. It’s slightly oaty and yeasty. Mouthfeel is light for the style. I was relieved to discover that the flavor is much fuller. It has thick mocha and coffee bean notes with a slight breadiness. Nice roasted finish. I was pleasantly surprised at the balance and fullness. This would make a very suitable session stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Draught @ Columbia location. Dark brown, fun splotchy off-white head. MMM cocoa aroma is very clean with nice asphalt notes. Tastes tarter than expected but segues into a licorice sweetness. Husky-sweet and very nice. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2007 On tap at Liberty. The pour is black and virtually opaque, with a tan head and light ring retention that diminishes to a small cap. The nose is nicely done, of sweet chocolates and roasted grains. Good chocolates upfront, that transfers into coffee mid-pull. The carbonation is a little high, detracting from an otherwise creamy palate. I pick up some dark fruit in the finish. This is definitely the best brew I’ve had thus far in the pub’s sampling. CaptainCougar (5527), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Tap at the High Point brewpub on 2/3/08: Barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin coating of wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty dark caramel malts and some nutty character and roastiness. Body starts with average fullness and a mild caramel and milk chocolate sweetness throughout with a touch of earthy bitterness toward a semi-dry finish. A decent oatmeal stout. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA
