| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 19, 2008 375 ml bottle from LCBO (2007), served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Cloudy, dirty brown-rose, smallish light pink head.
Aroma: Lots of cherries, cherry drop candies, some barnyard funk and organic acids, green herb notes.
Palate: Medium body, somewhat astringent (due to the acidity), full and fairly sharp effervescence.
Flav.: Huge amounts of cherry drop candy, sour cherries, some medium-roasted malt, a bit of bitter green herb, a touch of barnyard and ginger; on swallowing, somewhat tangy, a touch bitter and quite sweet.
I’m starting to warm to sour ales and this one is really a beginner’s version. Too sweet and fruity for my liking. ElGaucho56 (393), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2008 750 ml 2006 vintage, corked and caged. Pours a murky brown (seems to suffer from chill haze, as it decreases as it warms) which when held up to light, reveals a warm cherry glow. Almost no head other than a thin skin, but chunky lacing appears when it warms. Nose is typical of the style, funky and vinous, with enough candy sweetness to cut through the oaky sourness. On the palate the beer really shines, not too full but rich and smooth, starting with an initial tart burst that rides over a wooden hoppiness before gently cresting towards a lovely slightly biscuity caramel malt finish, ending up tasting just like those little cherry-cola gummies. A slight menthol aftertaste shows up, but is delicate enough not to be distracting. Delicious, and one of the better balanced krieks I’ve tried. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 19, 2008 A hazy rich red with a pink head, heterogeneous head. Cherries. Big sweet cherries. A good bit of malt, particularly some dark malt. A bit of twang. Smells like almonds at first! Full creamy rich body. Luxurious. Wow raspberry/cherry Tootsie Roll pop. Nice sweet dark malt with a good bit of cherry. There’s a tartness left on my lips. A hint of sour. Really dessert in a glass. yjb (110), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
