Ober (403), Best, Netherlands Jul 7, 2008 A hazy, dark red/brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma is sour, dark fruits, with some malty bitterness. The taste is complex. It’s a little sour and some sweet. A little chocolate with cherries. There are no cherries in it. It’s full of flavour. A very good Flemish Brown.
FlssmrBrewAlum (245), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle from Binny’s (South Loop, Chicago, IL). Poured a very nice dark brownish with red notes and a bit of yeasty floaties with a sizable tan head that dissipates and laces a bit. Aromas are a bit light, but can sense some vague oaky notes and some light sweetness reminiscent of a fruity bouquet. Taste is similar, light on the sour (But still present), instead boasting it’s fruity notes, grapes and light winey notes complimenting the lighter sourness. Light touches of oak tucked in well. This beer almost seems like a librarian.. all prim and proper, with the potential to be something grand. Nice mouthfeel, deep subtle finish. Very nice. Cheers! the_chandler (202), West Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a dark tan/light brown. Moderate foamy head. Good amount of sediment settles to the bottom. Aroma is pretty fruity. Thats about all I get from it. Flavor, however...tart. Very fruity, a lot of grape, raisin, plum, apple, etc. Very much more like a wine to me than a beer. No hop or leafy flavor at all. Very little malt, although it is present. Definitely pretty good, but not really my thing. pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 bottle from a recent trade..... dark mohogany brown with a thin off-white head.... aroma of rich toffee and caramels, slightly woody without any distinguishing sour components which seems odd considering this is labeled as a sour.... sweet dried cherries dominated by caramel/tofee malts with little to no sourness to it. mor in line with a sweet and woody cherry cider. mild to medium carbonation. drinkable but probably wouldn’t be high on my list to have again. jeff789 (57), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2008 Sour Ales are easily my favorite style. I’ve had sour ales i’ve liked more than this, and i’ve had quite a few more that i’ve liked less than this. Quite complex... Notes of berry, plum, apple? The tartness/sourness was not near the sour of many other Flemish Ales... I found the sweet/sour play to be a little unbalance on the sweet side. BoBoChamp (732), Gent, Belgium Sep 22, 2008 38cl, from Geers Oostakker, very complex, yet easy to drink, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew
