Commercial Description:
Our flagship ale! This deep amber ale has a smooth & malty character that is mellow, satisfying and full flavored. Often called ‘a dark beer that doesn’t taste dark’, the clean & creamy character has distinguished itself from all other amber ales! Gold Medal, Amber Ale Canadian Brewing Awards 2005

A: Poured with a small, white head that diminished to a thin film very quickly. Dark amber color, with a clear body. S: Aroma is a little weak... some sweetness in the malt is coming through, which is nice, but I’m not getting much else. T: Starts sweet, ends sweet. No real bitterness in there at all. Roasted-malt flavor in the finish. Nice. M: Light-bodied with a creamy texture, and average carbonation. D: May not be anything overly special, but it’s quite enjoyable, and it would be very easy to put a few back.

On tap. I’ve had this one several times before, finally gotten around to rating it. Dark coppery brown and clear with a small, lasting head. Aroma is dominated by yeast. Taste is yeasty and has some fruity notes as well. Body is medium light. Malt taste is on the dry side with some roasty flavour. There’s nothing wrong with this beer. It’s just boring.

On draught at Bird of Paradise on the Island. Delicious, smooth tasting amber ale which pours with a creamy white foam. Delicate sweetness and low carbonation. An excellent choice when visiting Vancouver Island.

The first beer I’ve had from this brewery, and I’m quite impressed. The colour is a great amber(duh)and comes with a tan, foamy head. Aroma is pleasantly malted. Taste, mouthfeel, and aftertaste are downright enjoyable.

Had this at the Garricks head pub in Victoria, BC was an attractive copper color with a nice sweet malty taste had some sweetness and slight bitter aftertaste had a couple and they filled me up so its not light but not very heavy just the right beer for a great pub in downtown Victoria Cheers!

6/6/08 On draught at the Stickey Wicket, Victoria, BC. Aroma is very low and malt forward with a noble floral note balance. Appearance is clear copper with a medium maintained off-white head. Flavor is sweet malt forward with a touch of sourness and moderate bittering. Mouthfeel is low bodied with a low carb texture. Overall, very easy drinking, but very low on character.

I am moving to Ontario from the Island and fear that Race Rocks may be what I will miss the most.

@GCBF-on tap-pours a retaining thin off white head that laces and amber color. Aroma is medium/dark malt-peat/caramel. Taste is medium/dark malt-peat/caramel, nice backbone of hops, some northwest bitterness. Medium body. OK carbonation.
