Commercial Description:
We have created our Black Lightning Porter to have intensely rich malt aromas with strong notes of chocolate and coffee. This has been by the judicious blending of 9 different malts, the bulk of which are from classic UK maltsters. Even though many breweries will add coffee and cocoa extracts to produce these effects, we feel this cannot replace the subtleties experienced by using only malted and then roasted barleys.
Our Black Lighting Porter is further crafted with the generous amount of hops that it takes to balance the intense malt nature of this beer. Without this degree of hopping the beer might taste “sweet” from the residual sugar that remains after fermentation has completed.
Finally, Black Lightning Porter is fermented and aged under a sophisticated process with our house strain of British Ale yeast. This results in one of the handful of truly refined extreme porters available. After fermentation is complete, we extensively age and lager the beer further. This has allowed us to allow sediment to settle and clear from the beer without the use of clarifying agents or filtration that may strip out additional flavor components.

Bottle shared by Odeed; Nose very lightly funky to start; then coffee and chocolate and light smokiness; black with a huge beige head that laces lughtly; flavor of light hop bitterness, coffee, chocolate, and some peppery spiciness on my tongue; over carbonated !

Thanks Beerlando!!! This one poured a blackish-brown color, with a delicate, yet gorgeous tan colored head. The aroma is refined and balanced, the roasted notes playing against against a melange of cocoa, nuts and some sweet spices. The flavor was fuller and richer than the aroma led me to believe it would be , with a rich chocolate note leading the charge. Excellent.

Courtesy Beerlando. Pours black with a small light brown head. Fairly mild aroma, alot of subtle roast, and chocolate cream, with some nutty notes as well. The flavor is much more bold, tons of bitter chocolate, and roasty malts. Almost tasted like an imperial stout in its flavors. Very similar which made me like it even more. Nice balance, alcohol wasnt overbearing and masked well. Damn tasty stuff.

Pours an oily opaque black color with a frothy tannish head. Sweet aroma of dark roasted malts, bitter chocolate, eathiness and floral. Flavor is sweet burnt caramel and roasty malt flavors, coffee and prunes. Definitely some nice pacific NW hops in there as well. Smooth, full body. Finishes long and choco sweet.

Bottle… GIABMISGFAB… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, foamy, light brown head. Excellent retention. Cocoa, cola and vanilla in the nose. Medium to full-bodied with Champagne-like carbonation. Dark chocolate and ethanol. The lengthy finish is bitter, burnt, and then, out of nowhere, surprisingly sweet. Kudos to Beerlando for popping the top on this one!
