Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Jul 12, 2009 Pitcher with Bartzilla at Hamburger factory. Not a bad Pale Ale. Pretty standard, some nice hop spice, with a good balance between the hops and malt. Extremely easy to drink. A nice summer beer. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 18, 2009 Taster at the brewery in Poway. Pours a slightly hazy orange body with a finger-width, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is grainy and bready with a deeper and crisper hop. A mix of citrus and melons with a touch of honey sweetness. Flavor is similar with a bit of yeast spice to go along with the balanced flavor. Dry finish with a spicy malt aftertaste. Full bodied and smooth. Overall, the brewer said this was supposed to be an English style pale ale, so I didn’t expect it to be over the top. Not bad for the style at all. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Jun 16, 2009 Cask @ Pizza Port Real Ale fest 2009. Pours a deep golden orange with a small off white head. Nose was faint herbal hops, a little more like an ESB than a pale. Solid roasted malt backbone. An ok beer from a pretty damn good brewery. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 10, 2009 On cask at stone bistro. Pours a hazy yellow/orange, with creamy white head. Bitter hops, grapefruit, caramel malt, grain, sweetness, and citrus. Fairly bitter and thicker mouthfeel. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 1, 2008 Tap @ Hamilton’s. Pours orange with an off white half finger head. Nose is slightly hopped. Taste is slightly hoppy, a bit too bitter for a pale. cazort (413), Newark, Delaware, USA Sep 13, 2008 (On tap) I was not terribly impressed with this brew. I tend to prefer American pale ales to other hoppy beers, and I liked the hop aroma of this beer and the strongly hopped character of it...but I felt that the malt was a little bit funky tasting. The beer seemed too heavy, and had a slight sour taste that I usually only encounter in the more poorly executed brews. This was not nearly as crisp and refreshing as APA’s normally are. Too sweet, too sour, too heavy. Overall a disappointment and I would not get this one again. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 28, 2008 On tap at Callahans. Pours a clear light orange hue with minimal head. Nose is subtle grains, light fruits, and candy bubblegum. Taste is sweet breads, grassy hops, light fruits, finishes dry. Medium-bodied with thick texture and overly prickly carbonation. A bit unbalanced for the style, hops and fruits dominate the malts. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 ON atp at Hamiltons. Sweet breay aroma and taste with a nice honey and light fruit taste clear golden with a fizzy white head.
