Commercial Description:
As you might expect from a Lightning Beer, we made an American Lager that is unlike others. It is big, has a slight corn taste associated with the style, hefty hopping and a true laggered overall taste. For hops, we used American varieties and a selected strain of American Lager yeast for fermentation. This is a big beer: around 8.3% A.B.V., with a slight aroma of hops, a moderate amount of bittering hops to balance the maltiness of the beer, and a clean fermentation from the yeast and temperatures we use through the process.

This strong lager/malt liquor pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, quickly dissipating with some decent lacing. The aroma is grainy and grassy, kind of sweet with some orange. A medium bodied post-prohibition style lager. The malts are fruity and sweet, with a lot of grass and grain. The hops are earthy and spicy. The 8.3 % alcohol is kind of noticeable. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Not a lot of the typical high gravity beer characteristics, except maybe for the sweetness. It’s a little too sweet for my taste. Mouthfeel is very full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

On draft at O’Brien’s. Appearance is a clear light orange hue, thin layer of dissipating bubbles, minimal lacing. Smell is sweet bread malts, corn, a touch of darker fruits, grassy hops. Taste is sweet grainy malt with a underlying dark fruit presence, slight bitter grassy hops and lager yeast, finishes dry w/slight alcohol warming. Palate is full-bodied, creamy thick and chewy texture, moderate carbonation. Overall, a moderate, thickly sweet lager that almost feels Belgian-ish, even at 8%abv there is good balance and flavor going on here, very unique style of beer, I was pleasantly surprised!

22oz bottle. Pale yellow with a small foamy whtie head. Earthen, herbal hop tinges with corn and appley malt. Heavy sweetness up front, vegetal and grainy characters. Some spicy hops in the finish, with heavy residual sweetness and a raw corn component. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium.

Bottle... Clear golden lager with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Notes of sweet corn, pale grain and spicy hops are the rule, aroma-wise. Full-bodied and a little oily with prickly carbonation. Tons of residual sugar. Sweet, white corn-on-the-cob... medium to heavy sweetness; moderate, metallic, peppery bitterness. Lengthy, sweet finish. Pulls up just shy of being downright cloying.

Bomber from South Bay Drugs. Dark gold color with a decent white head. Aromas of pale malt and grassy? hop. The aroma suggests a beer that is better than average. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. And that’s an understatement. My brain is reeling, but the alcohol is not impacting the aroma or flavor. Finish is very tasty. It’s not dry, but it is really tasty. Good lager.

Bottle from Bev4Less. Dark golden in color upon pouring. Slightly sweet grainy aroma, with some corn. Full flavored graininess with a bit of alcohol and corn. Somewhat bitter in the finish. This is an interesting brew. Some malt liquor qualities, but still drinkable and fairly refreshing.
