Commercial Description:
Lindemans Cassis is a lambic made from local barley, unmalted wheat, and wild yeast. After spontaneous fermentation the lambic is aged in oak. Black currants are added creating a secondary fermentation and yielding an ale of exceptional flavor and complexity.

Tasted 2008-02-19. Fresh bottle (3,5%). Pours clear, dark red with a light pink head. Powerfull aroma of black currant. A little too much like a black currant juice. No funk in the aroma. Flavour: Sour, but not extremely sour. It’s like the funk of the lambic is completely covered up by the berries (/added sugar?), leaving it just a tad bitter and very sweet/sour in a way that doesn’t quite ring my bell. It’s still very decent, though - I even like it, I just don’t love it!

Jan. 2007 - Pour was deep reddish purple, nice head & good lacing. Strong fruity aroma with sour lambic undertones. Strong flavor with a really nice balance of sweet and sour. Nice!

Color is purplie-ruby-mahogany. Sweet champaign fruity aroma. Initial taste is sweet wine followed by berry tartness and corky finish. More like a berry champagne than a malted hoppy beer but so smooth and complex in flavor .

Bottle. Dark purple pour. Looked like a dark grape juice with a frothy, rosy-pinkish head. Rich, sweet aroma of black currants with a heavily sweet, tart berry flavor. Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. I actually liked this more than I was expecting to, but it’s just not a style I’ll be coming back to too often.

Bottle, bought @ SuperBest, Christiansfeld. [3,5 %]
Pours a deep mahogany red with a very nice creamy pink head. Good lacing.Powerful fruity fresh black currants aroma - mostly sweet, but with a light tartness behind it. Flavour is very powerful as well - lots of fruit and agreat dryness to the mouthfeel. The tartness is there, but still very much subdued.

Pours a elegant plum purple color with a frothy pink head that leaves lines of sticky lacing. Aroma is really sweet and tart with the black currants, with just a little bit of funkiness cutting through. Taste is very tart and fruity, with the currants making a strong presence. The palate has a little bit of funk and oak to it. Really enjoyable but I think some of the sweetness could be cut back. It reminds me of NG Raspberry Tart.

From the bottle, this is tasty and enjoyable, but too sweet and fruit dominated for me, with too little complexity. It is a deep, deep purplish red with a big, thick, pink head that lasts forever and leaves pretty good lacing. The aroma is heavy blackcurrant (esp. creme de cassis) with a hint of yeast and mustiness. The taste is predominantly blackcurrant, sweet at first with a more tart, light finish. Overall, though, it is rather one-note and dominated too much by the fruit. I taste almost nothing of the lambic itself and even the tartness in the end is just a fruity tartness as far as I can tell, wihtout a sour, yeasty quality. Maybe it’s just the blackcurrants since blackcurrants are very strongly flavoured. It is good to drink after a meal or something like that but it’s lacking.

12-oz. Corked, capped, and foiled. Pours deep purply black with a thick and fizzy dark pink (mauve?) head that settles quickly to sudsy filmy and sticky lace. Dusty, dark fruity nose--either you know what black currants smell like or you don’t. That’s what this one smells like, along with some dust. Medium, sticky, surprisingly not-so-very-fizzy body. Sticky, bold, freshly fruity mid-palate with a long puckery tart finish. It’s a heck of a long way from the tartness of the big sours, but it’s got that fruit tartiness to it.
