Appearance is a really nice orange with a lasting white head. The smell from the bottle is really nice and funky. The smell from the glass is pungent, earthy funk. Musty, dank basement funk. The taste is quite sour and has a nice pucker. There is also a cheesy, lactic funk and earthy mushrooms. Sour fruitiness that is pretty much what I was hoping this beer would deliver. I’ve had sour beers before but this is my first gueuze, seems like a perfect beer to pair with cheese. The intensity of the beer reduces it to a sipper for me despite the low ABV.

Aroma of funk, green apple, lemon zest, and twigs. Flavor is a tart mixture of pink lemonade, slightly underripe green apples, and some light malt. Very tasty and refreshingly crisp on the palate. Finishes acidic but not bracingly so. Great beer overall, I just with that the mid-palate had a touch more punch. alobar (1026), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Butter’s 4th cellar reduction. Pours a little hazy gold with a thick bubbly white head. Sweet citrus honey and tart on the nose and an extremely tart taste. It is a near burning sour sensation but is oddly good. Has a sweet finish with little tart aftertaste. But I can tell that this is one of the best i’ve had. Pours a hazy gold. Nose is quite tart with lemon and cheese. Flavor is the same with a heavier tart quality. Quite good. But expensive.
