| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 27, 2008 Clear gold with a tiny, fizzy white head. Aroma of yeast and sour malt, very musty. Sour without being overly so, the flavor is tart and tangy, almost lemony. Nicely carbonated mouthfeel. Very pleasant. OldMrCrow (1202), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours warm hazy gold with a short-lived fluffy white head. Very nice musty aroma, stone cellar walls, fermented apples in a ciderbarn basement. Quite mild on the vinegar aromas. The flavor more or less follows: this is not an aggressively acidic gueuze, but as expected it’s completely different from every other Lindemans syrup-added soda pop I’ve ever had. Instead, again lots of very nice musty notes, woody, gentle touches of lemon, gentle buttery notes, plenty sour though not sharply so. I like badnewbears’s description of this as having starfruit (and raspberry, though the latter is very subtle.) The mouthfeel is absolutely spot on, gently carbonated to give it some sparkle but not so aggressive as to really make it zing; the acids begin to tickle the sinuses with each sip, but don’t burn the way some of the more sour beers can.
I’m very impressed. It’s really good fresh, and I’m eager to try it with a bit of age.
Note from the Naked City sour tasting: does well even against Giradin black (though falling somewhat below that stellar mark), starchier than that super-clean beer. FastEddie (183), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
