Very nice pour with a brown head and VERY dark and opaque body, one of the most opaque beers I have sampled. Very oily and sticky on the palate...hard to taste the alcohol. Slight chocolate flavor/aroma, although i have experienced much more chocolate from other stouts. This is definitely a brew all to its own, as I can not recall another beer with a similar style...possibly ayinger celebrator, but this beer is without the old world taste. This beer has a very dry after taste for a beer with so much body; it is a weird combination for me. The alcohol aroma and taste really comes out as the beer warms up, definitely an oversight that is predictable given the geographic origin of this brew. Overall, I would sum this beer up by saying that it is a valiant effort at a world class stout, but all aspects are a few steps behind the standards in stouts. This would be a fun beer to observe as it develops over time. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2006 Black with a small tan head. Aromas of chocolate malts and licorice. Smooth and creamy, with a strong lactic presence. Finishes with more oily, silky sweetness. Pretty good if you can find it. Aurelius (2655), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2005 Dry, somewhat stale chocolate aroma with some plastic overtones. Clipart label, opaque deep brown beer, medium khaki head. Appearance dings for the twistoff bottle. A peppery chocolate flavor. Medium-light cresol and creosote. Bready and not too sweet. FInishes with dark chocolate and coffee. Medium body, a balanced fizz. This was a super clean and very enjoyable bottle of brew -- dinstinctive, robust and balanced. Technically, this showed a couple of rough edges, but it’s like a standout player in the minor leagues - obvious talent, but needing a little polish. Picked up this bottle from a Bleeker St. market in Manahatan. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Medium viscosity and mostly opaque and black in color with an icy tan sheet pocked with popping bubbles for the head. Sweet roasty aroma with Hershey syrup, chocolate bubblegum, chocolate wafers, heavy cream and French silk pie. Syrupy chocolate flavor transfers into a quick recession, resembling chocolate muffins. Cocoa Krispie milk with corn flakes poured in after the original cereal has been consumed. Teeters between artesian and artificial semi-sweet chocolate morsels. Syrupy, broad and heavily spritsed palate persona. Carbonation and chocolate malt skew the balance, winding down to a double chocolate espresso aftertaste. Modest, yet decent. Thanks for the bottle, CaptainCougar! sammy3D (114), Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2005 This beer pours a dark opaque brown with minimal head. Aroma is dark chocolate malt with a touch of smoke. Smokey dominated flavors with a touch of chocolate and a hint of cofee. Bitter and bubbly in the finish with a hint of the 7.6 ABV but not far out of balance. "A mitey smoove brew, maga dog turn round bite you!" shrubber85 (3000), Wallhalben, Germany
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2005 Bottle. A strong molasses and coffee malt aroma. Dark opaque brown color with small head. Wood smoke and burnt sugar flavor primarily but with nice coffee malt notes and mild hops finish. Beats the holy crap out of Red Stripe. CaptainCougar (5532), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2005 Pours a rich opaque with a thin tan head. Sweet malty aroma has some dark fruit complexity and milk chocolate notes among roasted malt. Body has a nice sweet toasty caramel beginning with higher carbonation levels thinning the body some toward a sticky bittersweet and roasted finish. There is a little warmth in the finish, but overall this hides the alcohol fairly well. A nice and authentic foreign stout. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Smokey/roasty aroma with some sharp lager overtones. Deep black with a firm pinky thick mocha head. Creamy with chocolate and coffee notes. Again there is a lager like note to this..the finish has a lagerish taste to it.
