Huge malty aroma, brown sugar, smoke, dark fruits, vanilla, smells great. Taste is brown sugar, smoke, dark fruits, vanilla, hints of oak and bourbon? All in all, this is a great Scotch ale and the barrel is well in the background. Nice body. GregClow (2515), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2006 Michigan BGF 06, Rating #2500: Deep brown hue with no head but a nice oily film. The aroma has notes of smoky and peaty malt, star fruit, plum, grassy hops, earthy yeast esters, and fresh oak.
The taste starts with a smoky but not too powerful character supported by a plum and prune fruity undertone. Displays a woody note more towards the finish and there is just a dash of bitters found within.
The mouth feel is smooth, oily and lush but not sticky nor cloy. A most excellent brew, barrel aged well and restrain use of smoked malt (around 12% per Steve the brewmaster). I can not wait to get a growler of this tomorrow night. Tmoney99 (4786), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
