Jul 28, 2009 Tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured a molasses looking (not texture) dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma was malty with a slight sour and bourbon undertone. Similar flavor with a nice balance of the malts and the flavor picked up from the bourbon cask.

Jul 25, 2009 Had this at MBGSBF 09. Very tasty beer, with lots of dark fruit, but also some caramelly bits and some coffee on the finish. Very good stuff. I will definitely have to go to the brewpub next season. Cheers!

Jul 25, 2009 I had this on tap at MBGSF 09. It was a dark amber/copper color with a thin off white head. It had a great aroma - malty, caramel and vanilla...maybe even a bit of fruit in there as well. It tasted very malty, a lot like the aroma - in fact it was almost a literal translation of the aroma. It had a great medium/thick mouthfeel, and was an all around tasty beverage. It was the first to go at the festival for this brewery and justly so.

Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malt, citrus and wood aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration.
My expectations where met with another very good brew from this house.

May 7, 2009 [Draft @ Livery] Poured a nearly clear, amber color with a thin, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light toasty malts, bourbon, vanilla oak, brett, nuts, and some alcohol. Taste of caramel malts, vanilla, wood, some citrus fruits, bourbon and smoke, with a wild finish.

Feb 11, 2009 Coppery amber pour w/white fluffy head. Nose is bourbon, wine, caramel, and alcohol. Big alcohol, by the way...very, very hot and dry. Flavors are sweet caramel, toffee, oak, bourbon, wine, and little to no hop bite. Sour finish...obviously picked up a good bit of funk in the various transfers to wood. Good.

Dec 8, 2008 Sampled from fresh growler at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/5/2008. This dopplebock pours a medium orange gold color from the growler. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, sweet with a touch of oak and bourbon. A medium bodied dopplebock. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Lots of orange flavors with hints of bourbon and oak. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
