RAYBOY01 (1812), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 10, 2008 Very dark pour...deep reddish brown and small tan head that’s quickly gone. Very pronounced fruity nose, prunes and dates, I think, and touches of smoke. Same thing in the initial flavors...dark sweet fruits, prunes. figs, dates, raisins, brown sugar and a pretty good dose of smoke...underneath that is a yeasty fruitiness that interplays well with the syrupy sweetness of the roasted barley malts. Good work. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 Handpull at brewery: Deep mahogany brown with a small frothy head. The aroma has very fruity esters of fig and prune, lots of caramel and some peat malt, grassy hops. The taste is dark sweet malt and dark twangy fruit with just a hint of kicking peat. Long dry earthy yeast finish. Very vinous mouth feel that is dangerously drinkable, soft and smooth. WOW, pony up a few schillings for the yummy scotch ale. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 31, 2006 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized tan colored bubbles that was long lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The mild aroma was malty vinous roasted malt and sweet. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of sweet brown malt and softly acidic. A decent one that I would consider buying again. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 26, 2006 On tap at the brewery. Brown with no head or carbonation. Nose is heavy sweetness with some sharp malts. The taste initailly very sour, sharp and thick with sugar and hops. Agressive yet very clean. A very very good scotch ale. Philip (436), Illinois, USA Feb 26, 2006 Poured at the Michigan Brewer’s Guild Winter Festival. Second beer of the day, and not a dissappointment. Steve uses quite a bit of peated barley, and its immediately noticeable on the nose and on the palate. Caramel, cranberry, nutmeg, and smoke meet up in a well crafted beer. A style a very much enjoy, and a well made version of it. Kudos to the Livery for taking the bold move with the peat.
