Aroma of sweet raisins and dark caramel with brown sugar complexity. Body starts sweet and full with good dark caramel maltiness and smooth, lingering dark fruity complexity and chocolate chip cookie dough notes. Hides its alcohol quite well. Thanks Chris! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2006 On tap at the brewery 1 year anniversary party: Deep mahogany hue with a small fading head and oily fingers. The nose detects immediate characteristics of bourbon (vanilla, oak) along with candi sugar, clove, pepper, apple, prune, and caramel.
The taste starts fruity sweet with prune and fig at the forefront accompanied by a blast of bourbon goodness. There is a subdued exotic spiciness that soon followed with a hint of smoke, walnut, and wood. The mouth feel is very sticky and lush with a healthy dose of alcoholic warming. Yet again we have another wonderful creation by Steve and the perfect beer to celebrate the anniversary of one the best new breweries found anywhere. Thank you Steve and Leslie for the great time and the gift. Philip (436), Illinois, USA

Anyway, notes of tar, plum, and brown sugar on the nose lead into fig, all spice/nutmeg, and bourbon. Impressive. The Livery was robbed for not winning at the festival. mamabeer (39), Urbana, Illinois, USA

Very smooth in the mouth, make you want to hit every taste bud. High alcohol was almost a little much to let you taste all the good spice and fruit flavors going on. I’d love this one by a fire on a cold winter night! sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Some yeasty notes, floral and fruity, caramel, dark fruits, spice. Nice full mouthfeel, very smooth. I thought I picked up a hint of cardboard, but it was faint for a 7 month old growler. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 5, 2006 sampled at barrel-aged brewfest. bourbon/alcohol. so good. a little bland, but only relatively to the other stuff i’ve had today... ironically the only rating i wrote "good" about is the one i wrote least about. wow, didn’t even notice it’s almost 15% alcohol. it’s pretty well hidden, considering... 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 16, 2006 Thanks Chris! The beer pours to a deep ruby/brown body with no head. But, the color is really nice. The aroma is interestingly bourbon. After smelling this, I’d love to try Heaven Hill bourbon. There is nice vanilla, brown sugar, weird fruits, and a light watermelon. The flavor is rich. Bourbon vanilla and brown sugar. Perhaps some peated malts. Nice dark malts in this one. Lots of sweet malts. Rich palate that’s really sugary but also nicely textured. The alcohol is well hidden. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
